INTRO - How well do you know Die Hard?
Making the most of 24 years of 100% cinematic satisfaction.
The series began 24 years ago. That’s 24 years of anticipation. 24 years of John McClane. 24
years of non-stop action and unmatchable one-liners.
2013 marks the year of the 5th chapter. The chapter when the torch gets passed from our
cherished John McClane to his equally badass son. Die Hard fans around the world are waiting
in anticipation to see what the series has in store for them. Will it be another 24 years of
hungover mornings, complicated father-daughter relationships and lay-man heroism? Or will it
be even bigger and braver?
While the future remains unknown, the past is one thing that is certain. It is that certainty that
we would like to tap into with this interactive and exciting Facebook application. The certainty of
the world’s love for this series.
2
USER JOURNEY
A dedicated landing page will be
created out of the official poster of A
Good Day to Die Hard.
Users will be able to start the game
via a button marked: Take the Die
Hard challenge.
To make the challenge as exciting as
possible, users will only have 10
seconds to submit each of their
answers.
Also, after completing all 7
challenges, users will not know which
ones they got right/wrong. That way,
they are more likely to try again in an
effort to get a better score.
3
USER JOURNEY
After clicking on the challenge button
users will arrive at a welcome page.
There they will be introduced to the
fifth film of the series with exciting
copy.
4
One.
Challenge one will immediately launch
users into the action of A Good Day to Die
Hard.
Question: “John McClane refers to his son
as the 007 of which place?
a)New York City, New York State
b)Plainfield, New Jersey
c)Moscow, Russia
Watch this trailer to find out…”
The answer is in the trailer, which will
generate a lot of views.
5
Two.
Challenge two will make use of the
sexy poster artwork from all 5 Die
Hard films.
A timer will be there to remind users
that they have 10 seconds to place
them in their correct chronological
order and submit their answer.
(Obviously film titles will be
removed.)
6
Three and Four.
Challenge three will bring up memories of With A Vengeance where Jeremy Irons sets McClane
and Zeus all kinds of near impossible challenges via riddles and other children’s games.
The challenge:
Simon Says: As I was going to St. Ives I met a man with seven wives, every wife had seven
sacks, every sack had seven cats, every cat had seven kittens, kittens, cats, sacks, wives, how
many were going to St. Ives?
Presented with the film clip, users, like McClane and Zeus, will have to enter the answer as a 4digit number: 0001.
Challenge four will feature an image of the wicked scene where McClane takes out a helicopter
with a car in the most recent Die Hard.
The challenge:
Why in 4.0 did John McClane need to kill a helicopter with a car?
a) Helicopters can only go down if they're met with heavy steel.
b) John is a bad driver.
c) He ran out of bullets.
7
Five.
McClane has some of the best one liners in film history and we can’t resist including them in a
challenge. For challenge five we have selected one quote from each film and will ask users to pair
them with either the original poster artwork of the film, or a visual of the relevant scene
(depending on what you have available).
The challenge: Match the quotes to the Die Hard film:
1. "Now I have a machine gun HO HO HO."
2. "Hey, Carmine, let me ask you something. What sets off the metal detectors first? The lead in
your ass or the shit in your brains? "
3. "Say hello to your brother."
4. "Command centre? It's a basement.“
8
Six.
Challenge six taps into users knowledge of the first Die Hard where John McClane is trapped in
the Nakatomi Plaza and can only communicate with the outside via talkie and under a
pseudonym.
The challenge:
In Die Hard, when first introducing himself to Al, John cannot reveal his true identity and
instead gives the first name of a legendary cowboy. Which one?
a) John Wayne
b) Roy Rogers
c) Gary Cooper
9
Seven.
Challenge seven is an observation round based on a particular scene in Die Hard 2. Users are
instructed to pay close attention to the available clip so that they can successfully answer the
question that follows.
The clip will be of the famous scene at the end where, after saying his most known line ‘yippee ki
yay’ John McClane sets the leaked gasoline on fire, which zooms down the runway and blows up
the plane carrying the bad guys. Right before the plane blows, we see all of the terrorists,
smoking cigars, looking smug and proud of themselves for having gotten away with their crimes.
The guy front and centre is wearing a white over-suit and a white hat.
After the clip runs we will show a picture of the below image but he will be wearing something
different.
The challenge: “ What is different about this photo? ”
10
Game Over.
To end the challenges…
We thought we might conclude the challenges with the extremely memorable scene from Die
Hard 2 when John McClane escapes a plane about to be blown off by grenades via the ejection
seat.
Score/Share page:
The next page will feature the users final score out of 100%. Users can choose to:
• Share their score.
• Play again.
• Challenge their Facebook friends.
• A clip/trailer/TV spot from AGDTDH will play automatically when the score is revealed.
