MEET CREDENTIALS: Anyone on deck must have a meet credential—athlete, coach, official, or
volunteer. Credentials will only be available to those who register, so be sure to register your coaches
and officials, as well as your athletes.
AREA ATTRACTIONS:
 There are a variety of attractions in the area—see attached list.
 Discounted Six Flags Magic Mountain Tickets available to all West Zone participants,
Family, Friends, Coaches and Officials. See attached information.
SNACK BAR, VENDORS, AND TEAM COOLERS:
 There will be a city-operated snack bar open during the meet. They have worked with our
Meet Management Committee, and their menu will be enhanced for the meet to include great
foods—breakfast burritos, pasta salads, chicken Caesar wraps, tri-tip sandwiches—at great
prices.
 Vendor booths will be open during the meet
 There will be an area for team coolers. This area has covered picnic tables.
 There is also a grass area for team pop-ups.
GELLING AND DEGELLING:
 There will be a gelling area
 No DEGELLING anywhere at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center will be allowed. No
Exceptions. A $100 fine for each athlete found in violation will be enforced with an
additional $25 club fine.
WEST ZONE ROUTINE CRITIQUES:
Routine Critiques will be available again this year. Pam Edwards will be the critic and will be giving
a judges perspective for the routines. The onsite cost will be solo-$10, duet-$20, trio-$30, team and
combo-$50. Registration forms will be available at the meet and registration will be available online
(at a 20% discount) in the quick links section at WWW.USASYNCHRO.ORG the first week of
February through the end of February. Any specific questions can be directed to Kevin Warner at
Kevin@usasynchro.org.
WEST ZONE MEETING AND DINNER:
 A western themed dinner will be held at the Santa Clarita Sports complex on Saturday evening. It
will be followed by the West Zone Meetings.
 The facility is located on the upper western part of the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center. $10 per
athlete, chaperone, coach, official
 The athletes will eat first in the banquet room and then move to a multi-purpose room for their
meeting. They will be sitting on the floor for their meeting. We encourage the athletes to bring
mats to sit on, if desired.
 Coaches/officials will eat after the athletes in the banquet room, and will meet in the same room.

An Association will be fined $25 if the Association has competitors in the West Zone
Championship and the Admin Chair, or appointed representative, does not attend the WZ Mtg.
LIVE STREAMING OF EVENT:
The West Zone Board is negotiating with a company to do live streaming of the event. More details will
follow on this.
RULES TO GOVERN: Championships shall be held in accordance with Zone Rules, Article 10 and 12 as listed in the
current Rulebook.
ELIGIBILITY: The eligibility for this meet is governed by West Zone By-laws Articles 10.02 to 10.06, and
Article 12. These Articles are attached for reference.

 Sponsor Fee - $10 per competitor
 Entry Fee - $10 per competitor per event
 Surcharge for Jr./Sr.- $1.50 per athlete
 Late Entry Fee - $50 per club

minimum of 2 hours prior to the scheduled event.

POOL FACILITY:
 The West Zone competition will be held in the Dive pool.
 Lap swim is available in the 50M pool throughout the competition
 There will be a dry restroom near the pool for officials only
 Placement of the judges to be determined by the Officials Chair, but likely to be on the diving
board side only.
 There will be regular public access and programming during the competition. Swimmers
should be careful with leaving personal belongings unattended in the pool facility.
 Coolers and food for swimmers can be set up in designated team area.
 No one will be allowed to enter the water slide area

TENTATIVE MEET SCHEDULE
This is a tentative schedule. The actual competition schedule will depend on the number of athletes. A final schedule
will be given out at registration and will be discussed at the meetings for coaches and officials. The meet will
proceed as quickly as possible, which may be faster or slower than indicated in the schedule. All events will
occur on the days scheduled.
Warm-ups will occur prior to the start of each event and for a portion of each draw based on number of
routines entered. Example: Routines 1-13 will warm-up prior to the event, routines 14-27 will warm-up at
the 1st break, and Routines 28-41 will warm-up at the second break.
Team warm-ups will follow rotation down the pool or space allocation agreed upon at the coaches and
officials meeting. Team warm-ups will be run in order of draw.

Nature and History
Placerita Canyon Nature Park (15 miles) The Park features seven different trails,
covering more than 12 miles. Trails range in size from the 0.16 mile Botany Trail to the 2.45
mile Los Pinetos Trail, which provides spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and Channel
Islands on clear days. The Heritage Trail, which explores the cultural history of the park, is
paved to allow access for strollers and wheel-chairs. Within the nature park is The Oak of
the Golden Dream which is said to be the location where Francisco Lopez made California's
first authenticated gold discovery; as well as the Historic Walker Cabin.
Rancho Camulos Museum-CA Historical Landmark #553 (12 miles) a National
Historic Landmark where the early California lifestyle is preserved in its original rural
environment. Rancho Camulos was also the setting for "Ramona" an 1884 novel by Helen
Hunt Jackson that generated national interest in the history of Hispanic settlement in
California and the impact on Native Americans. The non-profit museum is a portion of the
ranch containing the main adobe, cocina, chapel, schoolhouse, and beautiful grounds.
Mentryville Just a few minutes away explore Mentryville. Historical 19th Century western
structures give visitors an authentic look into the past of California's "black gold" boom town
era. The "Big House" in Mentryville, erected in 1898, is a 13-room Victorian mansion was
the third Santa Clarita Valley Home of Charles Alexander Mentry.
William S Hart Park (8 miles) Part of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles and the
former home of William S. Hart, silent film star and director, the 265-acre Horseshoe Ranch
and mansion include an impressive collection of the actor's furnishings. Western art, Native
American artifacts and momentous of early Hollywood.
Tesoro Adobe Historic Park (4 miles) The Tesoro Adobe was built and owned by noted
western film actor, Harry Carey, in the 1920’s and 1930’s. During Carey’s prolific film
career, he is credited with at least 233 movies; the western movie elite including John
Wayne, William S. Hart, and Gary Cooper visited Tesoro adobe.

Vazquez Rocks (20 miles) a 750-acre reserve that once served as a hideout for outlaw
Tiburcio Vasquez, and was a shelter for the Tatavian Indians. Rock climbing is the primary
sport, but for a less perilous workout, saddle up for a riveting ride or go it on foot along the
many hiking trails in this rocky terrain.
Ed Davis Park (7 miles) At Ed Davis Park in Towsley Canyon, located just off the I-5 at
Pico Canyon, you'll find an outdoor setting with hiking and mountain bike trails, streams and
natural woodlands.

WEST ZONE CHAMPIONSHIP RULES
Section 10.0l
A West Zone Championship shall be held every year, prior to the U.S. Junior Championship, with
competition in both Junior and Senior Divisions and conducted according to the Rules governing the U.S. Senior
Open and U.S. Junior Open Championship, where not specifically addressed in the West Zone Rules.

An Athlete member may enter only one (1) of the four (4) Senior Zone Championships each year.
Section 10.03
Awards
A.
Routines: Awards shall be given to the top 8 Solo, Duet, Trio, Team and Combo entries in both the Junior
and Senior Divisions.
B.
Junior Figures: Awards shall be given to:
a)
The top 8 Figure finishers.
b)
The top 3 finishers for each individual figure.
c)
High Team Figure winner based on club average.
C.
High Point Award: The West Zone shall award a High Point Award to the Club with the highest total points
earned in the combined championship. This shall be a traveling award with each years’ winner engraved on
the award. The West Zone shall provide the award. Points for the Combo event will count towards the High
Point Award.
Section 10.04
The West Zone Championship shall be held in accordance with USSS Rules, Part Three, Rule I-IV,
as listed in the current rulebook.

For Senior and Junior Championships:
1.
Junior athletes who also qualify to compete as Seniors (see Section 10.06, Senior Division
Qualifiers) may enter the same routine in both the Junior and Senior divisions at the West Zone
Championships. For the Junior entry, Figure competition shall be held and figure scores added to
the free routine score. For the Senior entry, the free routine will be a final event and may be used
to qualify for US Nationals. Routines entered in both the Junior and Senior divisions must pay the
entry fee in each division.
2.
Junior and Senior Routines in each event shall be conducted as a combined group.
3.
There will be no change in judges or scoring personnel during the routine event.
4.
Competitors ages 13-14 may enter as honorary competitors and may combine with competitors
ages 15 and over to enter honorary junior/senior routines. These routines are NOT eligible for US
Nationals.
5.
There shall be a Combo event conducted as a 100% routine event.
For Senior Championships:
1.
The two competitions shall be Technical Routines and Free Routines in Solo, Duet and Team
Events. The scores shall be combined to determine final placement.

Nationals, but shall not be eligible for a West Zone Senior Championship award.

Figure Draw will be made at the Judges and Coaches Meeting held on the first day.
Routine events will consist of Solo, Duet, Trio and Team, and shall be considered final events.
Foreign Federations may enter competitors in the West Zone Championship under the following
Entries: Foreign athletes may enter only with the written approval of their own Federation.
Each Federation/Club may enter only 2 Solos, 2 Duets, 2 Trios, 1 Team, and 1 Combo.
Foreign competitors shall receive an honorary award for their final placement. The West Zone competitors
shall be listed in final placement and given awards without regard to the placement of foreign competitors.
Section 10.06
Senior Division qualifiers:
A.
Each Solo or Duet entry must have recorded, in an acceptable Championship, a routine score not more than
two (2) points below the current U.S. Senior Open Championship minimum standard score.
B.
Qualifications for a Duet entry shall be met if 50% or more of the members remain the same as at the time of
qualification. Teams may enter the West Zone Championship without regard to qualifications.
C.
Unless otherwise qualified, each registered club in the West Zone may enter one (1) entry per event
regardless of the minimum standard scores. Those entering under this rule must furnish proof of having
competed in the specific events entered in their most recent Senior Association Championship.
D.
The Championships acceptable for earning the minimum standard scores shall be determined by the West
Zone Board of Governors. Those presently qualifying as acceptable competitions for this purpose are:

Section 10.07 Late Entries
Late entry(s) to the West Zone Championships will be accepted at the discretion of the Host
Organization, the Zone Administrative Chair, the Zone Scoring Chair and the Zone Technical
Chair. If the entry(s) are accepted, the club shall pay a fine to the Host Organization. Fine is
defined in Appendix A.
ARTICLE 12
WEST ZONE 13-15 AGE GROUP INVITATIONAL
Section 12.01 A West Zone 13-15 Age Group Invitational shall be held every year in conjunction
with the West Zone Championship.
Section 12.02 The competition shall be held in accordance with the most current USSS Age Group
rules, except where noted in these by-laws.
Section 12.03 Entry/Competition Rules
A.
There are no qualifying meets or scores for this competition.
B.
An athlete may only enter three (3) routine events and may not enter the same routine event
in the Junior or Senior Division of the concurrent West Zone Championship.
C.
All competitors in this meet shall participate in the Figure competition.
D.
The figure group performed will be the same Group that will be used at the US Age Group
Championships for that year.
E.
Routine events shall be considered final events.
F.
Awards shall be given to the top 8 Figure, Solo, Duet, Trio, and Team entries. Additionally,
Awards shall be given to the top 3 finishers for each individual figure plus to the high team
based on club figures average.
Section 12.04 Late Entries
