November 15, 2015 Pastor of Youth & Post-Grad Ministries Job Description The Pastor of Youth/Post-Grad Ministries shall be a godly man who demonstrates a vibrant faith in Jesus Christ and meets the Biblical qualifications for the office of Pastor. 1. Qualifications: a. Give evidence of good moral character and sound judgment in his personal, family, and spiritual life. b. Exhibit a passion to worship God. c. Exhibit a passion and love for children, youth, and post-grads. d. Exhibit a passion to grow youth and young adults in their faith in Jesus Christ. e. Exhibit approachability and trust with ability to connect and identify with youth culture. f. Exhibit strength in administrative, leadership, and team-building skills. g. Exhibit the gift of teaching and preaching with noted strengths among a youthful audience. h. Subscribe to the 1995 Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective and the WMC Commitment of Faith. i. Subscribe to the Ministry Leadership Team model exercised and practiced at WMC. 2. Basic Job Description: a. Develop and grow faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Lead and oversee the vision, spiritual diet, and welfare of all youth ministries. Provide pastoral care and counsel as needed b. 75% time: Blaze 912. Cultivate relationships, mentor, and be an active, visible presence in the lives and activities of Blaze 912. Plan teaching curriculum and events with the advisory team. Assist youth and parents in career/college selection or mission discernment. Oversee conscientious objection registration. Recruit and oversee the advisory team. c. 10% time: Keegan 78 & Kindle 46. With the Youth Ministries Coordinator, and Directors of Keegan 78 and Kindle 46, plan diet, curriculum, and budget meeting at least four times annually. Monitor eligible student participation and follow-up with the Directors. d. 10% time: Ignite: Assist the Ignite Shepherds in cultivating leadership, planning curriculum, and ensuring healthy student transition from Blaze 912. e. 5% time: i. Serve on YAMLT (Young Adult Ministry Leadership Team.) ii. Network regularly with local youth pastors. Engage in community youth ministries and high-school events. iii. Attend monthly MLT meeting, quarterly Coordinating body meeting, and semiannual LMC Leadership Assembly. iv. Direct the annual five-day Weaverland Day Camp ministry. 3. Expectations: a. Salaried: full time role. b. Volunteer in various aspects of congregational life. c. Serve on the Ministry Leadership Team. d. Credentialed with a License for Specific Ministry through Lancaster Mennonite Conference with a five year review. e. Report directly to the Lead Pastor. Accountable to the Ministry Leadership Team and congregation. f. Pursue personal growth; and practice spiritual disciplines. g. Participate in ongoing training pertinent to the role, as needed and as schedule permits. 4. Timeline and Discernment Process: a. Names from within or without WMC are welcomed. Consideration of nominees and applicants will begin January 31. b. Nomination: may be given verbally, or submitted in written or electronic form within the congregation, January 3-31. Written submittals must be dated, signed, and include contact info. c. Application: may be submitted in written or electronic form immediately. Plans are to recommend a candidate for interview with LMC Credentialing Committee in April, 2016. Upon approval of the credentialing committee, WMC members will be invited to affirm the candidate through a ballot. f. Installation is planned by June 1 with a start date no later than August 1. g. The Discernment Committee is: Dustin Becker, Bonita Horst, Juanita Huber, Nevin Hurst, Michael Lichty, Brian Martin, Nick Martin, Cliff Sauder, Carl Sensenig, and Don Weaver. h. Neal Martin will continue to serve as Pastor of Youth & Post-Grad Ministries until July 31. Intentional shadowing with the new candidate is planned and budgeted prior to July 31.
