Unit 1: Themes of the Old
Testament
Lesson 2: The Author/The Characters
1 Who is the Author?
God. Every word in
the Bible exists because
God inspired a given
individual to write it down.
God Is The Source Of Scripture
The Holy Spirit is the Divine author of
Scripture.
Above all, you must understand that no
prophecy of Scripture came about by the
prophet's own interpretation. For
prophecy never had its origin in the will
of humans, but men spoke from God as
they were carried along by the Holy
Spirit (2 Peter 1:20-21).
Scripture claims that Jesus Christ is
the ACTUAL WORD of God!
John 1:1-2 In the beginning was the
, and the
and the
He was with God in the
beginning.

Holy Spirit.
The OT points to Jesus;
the NT reveals Jesus.

• His name tells us who is, what he does, and
describes his essence.
• The Bible also reveals God’s attributes with
titles like King, shepherd, Father, Almighty,
and hundreds of others.
What’s in a Name?
Read p. 5-6 in student textbook
• In Bible times, a good name meant even
more than a good reputation, because it
represented a person’s character, identity,

• In Hebrew, some names can even be
identical to the name itself. Ex:
Obadiah=servant of Yahweh
