What: Legal Advice
• Provide solution focused, practical, legal advice to assist
University in achieving the strategic goals
• Seek to ensure the legal, ethical and financial integrity of the
University are protected and enhanced
• Understanding of University business to support informed
decision making and management of risk
• Advise signatory who considers legal risk together with
benefits of research to the University, strategic importance
and financial risk/benefit.
• Signatory /Approver is set out under
the Signing Authority Policy

• Contract submitted for signature to RSS
with background information/instructions
• RSS liaison submits to OCLA for legal review
• Potential legal issues and points of note for RSS/PI
with proposed solution or mitigation
• Returned to RSS liaison (single point of contact)
• Forwarded to PI
• Further action decided
• OCLA – any issues contact to discuss
• Exception – For Tyndall-related contracts, direct contact can be made with Paddy
Martin or through one of the Tyndall-based case managers ie. no engagement with
RSS.
