Sixth Sunday
after Trinity
Be their shepherd and carry them forever. To
you, O LORD, I call; my rock, be not deaf to
me, lest, if you be silent to me, I become like
those who go down to the pit.2
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and
to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be forever.
Amen.

Dobratz from Sun Prairie, WI. We thank him
for sharing the Word of God with us and for
leading our worship this weekend.
Welcome
Lord of all power and might, You are the
Author and Giver of all good things. Increase
in us the love of Your name, increase in us
true religion, and nourish us with Your
goodness; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our
Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the
Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

In the course of time Cain brought to
the LORD an offering of the fruit of the
ground, 4and Abel also brought of the
firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions.

offering, 5but for Cain and his offering he had
no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his
face fell. 6The LORD said to Cain, “Why are
you angry, and why has your face fallen? 7If
you do well, will you not be accepted? And if
you do not do well, sin is crouching at the
door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule
over it.”
8
Cain spoke to Abel his brother. And when
they were in the field, Cain rose up against his
brother Abel and killed him. 9Then the LORD
said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?”
He said, “I do not know; am I my brother’s
keeper?” 10And the LORD said, “What have
you done? The voice of your brother’s blood
is crying to me from the ground. 11And now
you are cursed from the ground, which has
opened its mouth to receive your brother’s
blood from your hand. 12When you work the
ground, it shall no longer yield to you its
strength. You shall be a fugitive and a
wanderer on the earth.” 13Cain said to
the LORD, “My punishment is greater than I
can bear. 14Behold, you have driven me today
away from the ground, and from your face I
shall be hidden. I shall be a fugitive and a
wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me
will kill me.” 15Then the LORD said to him,
“Not so! If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall
be taken on him sevenfold.” And the LORD
put a mark on Cain, lest any who found him
should attack him. 16Then Cain went away
from the presence of the LORD and settled in
the land of Nod, east of Eden.
How can we who died to sin still live in
it? 3Do you not know that all of us who have
been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized
into his death? 4We were buried therefore
with him by baptism into death, in order that,
just as Christ was raised from the dead by the
glory of the Father, we too might walk in
newness of life.
5
For if we have been united with him in a
death like his, we shall certainly be united
with him in a resurrection like his. 6We know
that our old self was crucified with him in
order that the body of sin might be brought to
nothing, so that we would no longer be
enslaved to sin. 7For one who has died has
been set free from sin. 8Now if we have died
with Christ, we believe that we will also live
with him. 9We know that Christ being raised
from the dead will never die again; death no
longer has dominion over him. 10For the death
he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life
he lives he lives to God. 11So you also must
consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to
God in Christ Jesus.
Holy Gospel – Luke 7:11-17
Soon afterward he went to a town called
Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went
with him. 12As he drew near to the gate of the
town, behold, a man who had died was being
carried out, the only son of his mother, and
she was a widow, and a considerable crowd
from the town was with her. 13And when the
Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and
said to her, “Do not weep.” 14Then he came
up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood
still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you,
arise.” 15And the dead man sat up and began

to speak, and Jesus gave him to his
mother. 16Fear seized them all, and they
glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has
arisen among us!” and “God has visited his
people!” 17And this report about him spread
through the whole of Judea and all the
surrounding country.
