First graders learn about the world by making apple pies with librarian Mrs. Presser. They just read How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World. One of our first-grade teachers, Mrs. Foland, helps make apple pie. Mrs. Farashahi’s class presents a poem at Chapel. Chapel is a short daily assembly which is a time for reflection, and for celebrating our community and its values. The program often includes a personal message from a faculty member, a presentation by one or more students or a visit from a community leader. Mrs. Foland’s class presents a Chapel about colors. All aboard for our pretend airplane flight to Washington, D.C., our nation’s capital. Anyone want a snack? Our pilot and copilot are ready for takeoff. At the controls We learn about Colonial Williamsburg in the 18th century. We are making candles by dipping ropes into wax. This was called candle-dipping. We explore the outdoors at Fox Island County Park. We dress the part for our biography reports. We are enjoying a classroom Halloween party. We visit a tree farm to learn more about trees for our study of trees. We learned about Native American Indians and Pilgrims Our third graders are having loads of fun presenting their inventions. Third graders have a summer picnic in the winter. Wow! They’re good at the limbo. Mrs. Eller Kindergarten - How much does the cup weigh? First graders are painting with berry and vegetable juice like the Native American Indians might have done. Third graders are racing cars they made out of wood. Fourth graders are looking at earthworms, the earth’s decomposers. We conduct experiments and display reports. Students can take apart objects to see how they work. An illustrator visits in the library. Students make poetry come to life by dressing the part as they read to their class. Fourth graders are in the library making canoes. They just finished reading the book Paddle to the Sea. Chess Class We are making masks for Mardi Gras, a celebration before the Catholic time of Lent.
