Teacher: Erica Hoover Week of: Sept. 14-18 Concept, Connections, & State Standards Strategies & Procedures (Best Practices) Materials, Technology, & Practice Evaluation: Adjustments & Explanations Subject: Biology Tuesday Wednesday Transition to Cell Structure and Function Unit. *We can distinguish between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. *We can identify the parts of a compound light microscope. D.B.P.- Students will create a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting prokaryotes and eukaryotes. *We can use a compound light microscope to conduct investigations. Introduction to the light microscope lab. D.B.P.- Students will create a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting light and electron microscopes. *We can identify the cellular organelles associated with major cell processes. Research Day! Introduce cell organelle project. Students will create a story (advanced) or Wanted poster for a young audience about the organelles of the eukaryotic cell. Students will organize ideas and start gathering research on the cell story project. Microscopes and various materials to make wet mount slides. Bozeman biology video, labeling eukaryotic cell. Independent practicestudents will complete notes on organelles on their own. Distribute rubric on organelle story. Computer lab. Lab turned in for a 100 point grade. Check for understanding throughout the lab. Quiz tomorrow! Quiz- Cell theory and labeling the light microscope. Students will submit “storyboard” ideas for approval by the end of class. Quiz today! Notecards due tomorrow! Notecards due today! Review Test. Closure to Macromolecule unit. Power Point lecture and notes on cell theory. Compare and contrast light and electron microscopes. Pre-lab activity. Introduction to using the compound light microscope. Independent practice: students will work on labeling the microscope, and researching how to focus, and make a wetmount slide. Assign new vocabulary Quiz on Cell theory and labeling the microscope on Thursday. Vocabulary notecards due on Friday. Quiz Thursday! Thursday Friday *We can identify the cellular organelles associated with major cell processes. 2010-2011 WHHHS Lesson Plan Template
