AM LIT: The Crucible Character Map Project Due: Fri, Nov. 6 The Crucible Character Map Project As we’ve read The Crucible, we’ve discussed the main characters of the play (and you’ve made notes in your character log sheet). We’ve talked about the characters’ motivations, their relationships, their conflicts, and how they’ve changed over the course of the play. Now, I would like you to present in a graphic format your generalizations, inferences, and conclusions about one character. You can focus on any of the following characters: John Proctor Elizabeth Proctor Abigail Williams Reverend Parris Reverend John Hale Mary Warren Deputy Governor Danforth Giles Corey Rebecca Nurse The map of the character you choose should address all the following traits or features: 1. Appearance - What are aspects of the characters appearance? 2. Words and Actions – How did what they said/did illustrate their character? 3. Background 4. Personality 5. Motivations – What motivated the character act the way they did? 6. Relationships 7. Conflicts – What conflicts did the character face? 8. Change - How did the characters change throughout the course of the story? Your description of each trait or feature should be detailed—at least 30 words—plus it should include, in addition, one quotation from the play supporting your conclusion. (Be sure to provide the page number of the quotation.) This should be typed and be in separate paragraphs (essay form) with headings for each trait. If you choose to use headings, that is alright as well. We will be typing during class so have each aspect of the character noted and written out beforehand. Make SURE you are using and referencing the text through quotes and Miller’s characterization methods. The character map project has 65 points possible: 5 points for each character trait or feature and 10 points for artistic creativity and neatness. 10 points possible will be given for all notes/brainstorming taken in regards to the project. 50 pts – brainstorm/notes (10) & typed character elements with headings(40) *Due Fri 11/6 The 25 points for artistic creativity and neatness will be assessed to those who incorporate these elements into their character map.
