When did it occur and why?
• It was signed in 1763
• In order to end the
French and Indian
War/Seven Years War
between Great Britain
and France.

• Wanted to end war because of the
expense and was starting to become in
dept
• Peace settlement failed
• French and Spanish Diplomats signed
family compact
– This brought Spain into the war and was no
competing against Britain
Great Britain
• World’s leading colonial empire
• Owned land from India to Africa and to the
west Indies of North America
• They took the wasteland from France
rather than taking prosperous land from
the Islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique
• George III was replaced by king and
pushed peace negotiations
– Which meant giving back land to the French
France
• Ceded New France, along with all its
claims east of the Mississippi River and
gave it to Britain
• Got back the west Indian Islands of
Guadeloupe, Martinique, Marie-Galante,
and Desirade
Treaty
• France gave up all territory in North
America to end all treats to Britain from
foreign military (losing Canada to Great
Britain)
• Spain gave up Florida because they
wanted Cuba back from Britain
• England=all of North America east of the
Mississippi
