Math Tutor Position
Thank you for your interest in applying to become a math tutor. Please read the following to
learn more about the position and how to apply. Applications are accepted year around, and
positions are filled when they become available. Applicants who meet the requirements will be
contacted.
Job Title & Description:
Math Tutors work with CSUDH students in one on one and small group tutoring sessions that are
held at the Toro Math Center. Math tutors help students with course concepts and provide them
with feedback, strategies and suggestions to help them through their learning process. Tutors
also help students with their critical thinking, and studying skills as additional means to academic
success.
Applicants must:






Be a CSUDH student taking at least 6 units of CSUDH classes during employment
Be able to commit to a set schedule for the entire semester
Have strong communication & interpersonal skills
Have a 3.0 or higher overall GPA
Be able to tutor upper division courses in addition to specific subjects
Submit a complete job application with the documents listed below:

A letter of interest addressed to the Math Center that
o Explains why you want to become a Math Tutor
o Identifies what subjects and academic skills you can tutor
o Shares any formal and/or informal experiences that you have had in working with
students or in a learning environment

An unofficial copy of your current CSUDH transcripts and/or transcripts from your previous
institutions

2 letters of recommendation from professors (preferably CSUDH faculty) who can
comment on your math proficiency and academic performance
o Please ask your professors to address the letter to the Math Center
o Letters can be sent via campus mail to the CSUDH Toro Learning Center.
You may submit your application, letter of interest, and transcripts to Patrick Naranjo
