Earth Science With Mrs. Locke This year! A general overview O All about Earth and Space this year! O We do a lot of labs, group work, art project, notes, and drawings O Students are expected to come in and start on opening work, O checked daily O worth extra credit O Timed O Class rules and consequences O On the website and front of room O In the students ISN O They are typical rules for a class O Must have a composition book O Notes, opening activities, vocabulary list, and most work will be in the composition book. O Students are going to need glue and colors to keep it up to date. O They are graded periodically throughout the semester. Homework O Is posted on the web weekly O Is generally assigned Mondays and due Friday O There is homework most weeks O Most homework will be a handout related to what we are covering in class that week. O Should involve some regular studying and review of the notes Textbook O There is an online version. O It is linked to the web site for class O Login information is on the syllabus Science Fair O This year students will not be required to complete the science fair due to my absence. O I will help anyone really interested in participating on an individual basis upon my return. O The time to work on the fair is from Oct. through early Jan. Ways to help your 6th grader be successful: O Make sure they have the materials they need for class O O O O O O O O O everyday Check their agenda Offer rewards or consequences for having information written in the agenda Ask to see the completed work (all graded work is returned) Have them explain how they got an answer rather then just telling you the answer. Make vocabulary flash cards to review with them Quiz them over their notes Read and discuss current events with them Have them read; it doesn’t matter what they read, they just need to read.
