Issues identified within the Canadian Volleyball community:
1.
Players start playing volleyball at too late an age
2.
Well meaning coaches in the education system need improved technical
information
3.
Players are specialized too early
4.
Too few players are selected too early
5.
Canadian volleyball players under train (both volleyball and physical prep)
6.
A developmental “gap” exists (19-25 years)
7.
System Integration (schools-clubs/provinces-CCAA/CIS-national teams)

“FUNdamentals” Volleyball Program:
 Mini-Volleyball (Goal = 100,000-200,000+)
 CAHPERD endorsement
 Can be used as approved curriculum in elementary schools
 40,000+ participants in Canada in 2005-2006

“Learning to Train” Volleyball Program:
 Atomic Volleyball (LTAD Goal = 30,000-50,000)
 CAHPERD endorsement
 Can be used as approved curriculum in elementary schools

“Training to Train” 13U Nationals pilot starting in 2008:
 Program to provide link between 12U (Atomic) and 14U
 Court Sizes:
 Mini / Atomic: 6.1m x 6.7m (badminton court) up to 4 on 4
 13U: 8m x 8m with 4 on 4 (? - TBD)
 14U: 9m x 9m with 6 on 6
 Modified rules to encourage participation and fun
 Different style of Nationals (Festival atmosphere)
 Provincial Pilots in 2007

Playing Up (Developmental Level vs. Chronological Age):
 2007 VC Nationals
 Teams Playing Up Allowed
 Teams playing in more then one nationals allowed
 Must wait until March 1, 2007 to register for Team “playing up”

“Training to Train” Rule Modifications:
 VC Nationals: Men 14U and 15U and Women 14U and 15U
 No Libero
 12 substitutions (in/out once only)
 Same score sheet as other age categories
 Rationale – helps to prevent early specialization

 VC NTCC’s (19U/18U for Men, 18U/17U for Women)

4-day event on the last weekend of July every year
2007 Men = SK (Regina), 2007 Women = ON
Second team (18U men and 17U women)
5 Provinces have a second women’s team in 2007
4 Provinces have a second men’s team in 2007
 9 teams = 108 athletes and 18-24 coaches

 21U Nationals (Raised from 20U – both beach and indoor)
 Provinces can depart from existing Club system to form teams
 4-day event May 10 – 13, 2007
 Always at Team Canada Volleyball Centre (Winnipeg)
 Best 3 of 5 matches (maximum of 2 per day) with 2 officials
 Women = 8 teams
 Men = 6 teams
