Mrs. Pennington’s class: Science – We are continuing to work on the Science Studies Weekly Week 1 newspaper. Ask your student what he or she has learned this week. Studies Social Studies – We completed Ch. 1 in History Alive! and will have a test on Monday. Students have a study guide. If they get it signed and returned at the time of the test, they will earn 5 bonus points. Next week we will be working a couple of days learning how to read time lines and then we will begin an Economics unit. Language/Writing –We will finish up Unit 1 Sentences with a test and begin on writing paragraphs to prepare for the next stage of writing an entire piece. Math – Make sure you are studying your multiplication table at least 5 minutes a day. If you do this, each student should have the table memorized by Christmas break. In class we are working on adding and subtracting whole numbers and decimals. I have attached a Highlights magazine information/order form to today’s newsletter. Whether you order or not, please sign and return the form. We can get a free subscription for the classroom if all of them are returned. If you would like to order this magazine for your child, please fill out and return the order form. Please do not send in any money. You will be billed later. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FYI If your child is going home with another student after school, you must send a note to school with them. Also, the student that your child is going home with must bring in a note. If a note is forgotten, the child will NOT be allowed to call home. If you plan to send snacks to school for a birthday or other occasion, they MUST be store bought and approved by the teacher before being sent in. This is a new policy from the school. Don’t forget to be looking for your child’s binder and planner each day after school. Students know it is their responsibility to copy the assignments from the list on the board each day. For a student to earn Classroom Bucks for the planner, parents must sign it every day. PTO is collecting Box Tops for Education. You can send these at any time to your child’s teacher. The first six weeks grading period will end on Friday, Sept. 17th. Reading – We will be reading the story Eye of the Storm on pages 57-75. We will also be working on the following skills: using graphic organizers, text organization, syllabication, and dictionary skills. We are proud of the effort our students have shown on the Think Link assessments (Reading, Math, and Social Studies) this week. The Think Link testing this year is being done online instead of the students bubbling in an answer sheet that has to be sent off to be scored.
