Day One:
1. Quiet Question: Type Two Prompt---You and your partner are going to use your Road to
Communism in China Lesson Graphic Organizer Notes and your Mao’s Communist China
Lesson Graphic Organizer Notes to examine how Mao can be viewed as a Hero and how he
can also be viewed as a Criminal/Villain at the same time.

2. Class: Based upon what we have learned about Communist China thus far, what predictions
can you make about what will happen in Post-Mao China? We will create a class brainstorm
list.

3. Class: We are going to begin to watch a documentary from You Tube “China’s Leader Deng
Xiaoping Documentary and Obituary.” As we do, you should be taking notes in the provided
graphic organizer.


This runs 48:28 minutes, so we will watch half today and finish the other half tomorrow.
Take the notes in PENCIL, BLACK, OR BLUE PEN.
4. Homework: You are to begin reading and taking notes from the provided supplemental
reading on Deng’s China entitled “China: Reform and Reaction”. TAKE THE NOTES IN EITHER
PINK, RED, ORANGE, OR PURPLE PEN.

Day Two:
5. Class: We are going to finish watching the You Tube documentary on Deng, and you should be
adding to your notes in the graphic organizer. This will take half the class period.
6. Individual: For the rest of the class, you will work with the Class Set of the Post-Mao
Powerpoint, and add to your notes.


TAKE THE NOTES IN EITHER PENCIL, BLACK, OR BLUE PEN.
Cover the topics not addressed in the homework supplemental reading:
o Deng’s Political Philosophy and Reforms,
o Gang of Four on Trial,
o Foreign Policy,
o Cultural Reforms,
o One Child Policy,
o and Deng’s Successors
7. Homework: Finish your chunked reading and note-taking. This will be checked for class
participation points the next class period.
Day Three:
8. Class: Ms. Barben is going to check your reading notes for class participation points.
9. Class: We are going to begin to watch one of two possible documentaries on the Tiananmen
Square Massacre. As we begin to watch the documentary, you should be adding to your
existing notes in the graphic organizer in PENCIL, BLACK, OR BLUE PEN.
Possible documentaries are:


You Tube: “Tiananmen Square Massacre 1989-The Tankman” that runs 52:37 minutes.
DVD: “History Channel Declassified-Tiananmen Square” that runs 50 minutes
10. Homework: For the final exam, you will begin the Writing Portion of the Final Exam. This is a
Common Summative Assessment amongst all the ninth grade classes. It will either be on:


China’s One Child Policy-Evaluating whether it was a good idea or not.
China’s Human Rights Violations----Evaluation whether China’s economic might is more
important than the continued violations of human rights.
THIS WILL BE DUE THE FIRST DAY OF FINAL EXAMS---THE DAY YOU
TAKE THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE FINAL EXAM.
