Starting the Lesson
This lesson is to show students what homes look like around the world.
Ask lots of questions, and let them ask a lot too!
Show the next slide with a picture of apartments from Barrio de Carmen,
Valencia, España. Ask some yes/no, this/that and open-ended
questions that are appropriate for their proficiency level.

Quickly cover that hogar = home by showing the examples. Most are
cognates so see what they can figure out. Maybe have them draw what

Put the students with a partner or a group. Give them one set of

categorize the vocabulary using words from there or other ones
that they need/want to know using a dictionary. They may want to
add new or different categories on the back. Edit as you need.

Next is a interpersonal writing practice activity based on
texting. Each student should practice each role. There are
some typical texting shortcuts used in the text. They find
this very interesting that they do this too.
If phones are allowed in your classroom, let them text,
screenshot their conversations and show you in your
preferred way.
If they are not allowed, you can print and use the blank “text
message” sheet.
Also this could be a homework activity.

This can be done in-class, as homework, or both. Modify as needed.
Show an episode of House Hunters International. It is in English, but
gives great cultural information.

During the show, they will complete the graphic organizer in Spanish.
Before they reveal which place is picked, stop the show. Have the
students vote for which they think they should choose. Ask them to
group up with others that agree with them. Using their notes, they
should defend why that place is best. Informally present that information
to the whole class. Then show the end. Maybe the correct groups get a
little something special.

a similar task for homework.
