Letter Ring Activities Dear Parents, Below are some suggested activities that you can do with the letter cards on your child’s letter ring. Remember that this list is not exhaustive- the possibilities are endless of what you can do to help your child learn letters and their sounds. The most important part is to have fun while learning! Letter and Sound Recognition Flash a letter card (either upper or lower case) and have your child tell you the name of the letter and the sound it makes. ABC Order For this activity, you can make your own letter cards if your child does not have a full set on their ring. Have your child put the letters in alphabetical order. Try it with both the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet. Matching Upper and Lower Case Letters For this activity, you can make your own set of letters; one for upper case and one for lower case. Have your child match the upper case letter cards to the lower case letter cards. Think of a Word Show your child a letter card and have them think of a word (or words) that being with that letter or sound. Letter Writing Using the letter flash cards, have your child trace the letter using their finger and then have them write the letter on a piece of paper, practicing proper letter formation. You can even purchase a white board from the dollar store or Walmart, and have them practice using whiteboard markers. Try other writing utensils too! Magnetic Letters Using magnetic letters and a cookie sheet (or fridge), have your child put letters in order and say the name/sound of the letter while they do it. (Magnetic letters can be found at Toys R’ Us or the dollar store)
