 Objective: SWBT write legibly and use appropriate capitalization and punctuation. SWBT understand new vocabulary and use it when reading and writing. SWBT deternine the meaning of grade-level technical academic English words in multiple content areas, analyze textual context to distinguish between connotative meanings of words; infer word meaning through the identification and analysis of analogies and other word relationships.SWBT use comprehension skills to listen attentively to others in formal and informal settings.

Activities: EQ: How does the purposeful use of language affect the reader’s understanding?

1. Do First: Revise and edit celebrity tweets.

2. Vocabulary review of new SAT words

3. Words in use: Construct sentences using the new vocabulary words.

4. Share your sentences with partner to review.

Materials: pen/pencil, worksheet

Follow Up/HW: Review SAT vocabulary, quiz on Friday. Bring first draft of Gothic story for peer editing.

Reminder - Wednesday: PSAT test, bring #2 pencils and calculator

Objective: SWBT use elements of the writing process (planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing) to compose text. SWBT write legibly and use appropriate capitalization and punctuation conventions in their compositions. SWBT use comprehension skills to listen attentively to others in formal and informal settings.

2. Peer editing of original Gothic story draft.

Materials: pen/pencil, first draft of all student’s stories, colored pencils

SWBT analyze how rhetorical techniques in literary essays, true life adventures, and historically important speeches influence the reader, evoke emotions, and create meaning. SWBT speak clearly and to the point, using the conventions of language.
