Me In 3- Introduction Speech

advertisement
“Me in Three”
The focus of this first speech is to introduce yourself to your classmates, and to me. However, there is
also a very real application. Strong communication skills are vital in the interviewing process. When you
interview, whether it’s for a job or college, it’s crucial to present a confident message: I am the person
you are looking for!
The process of interviewing requires you to provide the interviewer with a snapshot of who you are as a
person. Often you are asked to define your life philosophy, describe yourself in three words, or relate
two to three events that influenced your life. While these questions might seem vague or unrelated to
the specific job, in actuality, your answers provide insight into your thought-processes and your ability
to relate events/ideas into a meaningful message.
Assignment Objective: You will provide the class with a “snapshot” of who you are as a person.
Process: You will create a self-introductory speech from one of the focus options listed:
• Three words that define you
• Three moments/events in your life that define you
• Three people who have helped to shape the person you are
• Three major goals you hope to achieve in your life
Length of speech is 3-4 minutes
Focus on the elements of delivery
• Begin with an introduction (Stating your name), explain your three main points, and end with a
conclusion (sum up what you have said with a personal statement about yourself)
• Speech must demonstrate a strong speaker’s voice (a sense of a personal narrative)
• Speech must include fully developed ideas; it cannot be a simple listing of words/ideas or a timeline
events
• Speech must have an ultimate purpose. When you finish, what will we realize about you?
• Speech must include a visual aid to be utilized during the presentation. It may be pictures, objects, or a
poster. Be creative, but make sure it connects with, and extends the presentation.
• Speaker must prepare note cards for the presentation. They MAY be used during the presentation, and
they MUST be turned in after the presentation.
