Assignment: Prepare for the essay portion of your midterm exam. Analyze Morrie as a modern
Transcendentalist. Select three key transcendental ideas, and then find two quotations from the novel
to use in support of the idea. In addition, for each idea, select a quotation from Emerson’s Nature or
“Self-Reliance.” You will use these as you develop your in-class essay. Be sure to cite ALL quotations
parenthetically by page number. You are to bring this to the exam, and you will hand it in as part of the
exam.
