Origin of the state:
• Evolutionary Theory—Evolved from the heads
of families (Ex. Tribal Chiefs, Elders)
• Force Theory—Leaders took control by force
(Cuba)
• Divine Right Theory—God/The Gods choose the
leaders or they are descendants of the Gods.
Examples – Monarchs (Pharaohs, Kings, Tsars,
etc.)

surrendered some of their own power/rights in
exchange for the protection/laws of the
government.
