Lap #1 : Chapter 1 Tools of Geometry
Name _______________________________
Materials needed: Textbook: Prentice Hall Geometry; Binder with dividers, Loose
leaf for practice work; TI 83-84 calculator, Tools: pencil, highlighter, ruler,
protractor, compass
Rationale: This chapter will cover the foundation blocks for the structure of
geometry. These foundations will provide you with ways to measure segments and
angles. You will also learn to use constructions and the coordinate plane to represent
geometric figures.
Objectives: Upon completion of this LAP, students will be able to use inductive
reasoning to make conjectures, understand basic terms and postulates of geometry,
identify segments and rays, recognize parallel lines, find lengths of segments, find
measures of angles, use a compass and straightedge for geometric constructions,
find the distance between two points, find the coordinates of the midpoint of a
segment, and find perimeters and areas.
Essential Questions: What is a postulate? Why are postulates important?

Independent Homework Assignment:
1. ASN: 1.2-1.3 p. 15 # 60-65, p 20 # 37-47, p 33 # 87-94
DUE DATE_____________________________
ASNs: Always, Sometimes, and Never Statements to help you remember important
definitions, axioms, postulates, and theorems throughout parts of the textbook.
These statements need to be completely written out with the ASN word highlighted.
ASNs should be completed separate from homework on their own piece of loose leaf
with your name, class section, and the section of the ASNs on the top. Please number
the ASN questions correctly.
2. Daisy Design p. 39 #34
DUE DATE______________________________
Read through question 34 on how to create a daisy design. Then on a piece of plain
computer paper create your own daisy design (your circle should be large enough
to almost fill the width of the page). Please be creative, colorful, and NEAT as all will
go into factoring your grade for the design. Make sure your name is on the back.
