Please make sure to monitor this page! Remind I will be using the Remind Texting App to communicate homework assignments and testing dates. Please see attached directions to get connected for students and parents. Standards Based Tests/Reporting: (100 points each) Reminder that test make up 100% of your grade. You must take them seriously! You will have two(2) rounds of testing if you desire. o Round 1 will be strictly multiple choice questions, if you are happy with your grade after round 1 you are done. o If you are not happy with your grade after round 1 then you may take round 2. To be eligible for round one all missing assignments must be completed and turned it with work, along with the assessment analysis and practice questions completed and checked with work by the given deadline. o Once the above requirements for round 2 are completed you may take the round 2 test after school. If you get all questions correct on this test you will still receive a 100% on that unit test. Round 2 tests are short answers and you must show your work to get credit and they must be taken after school or during lunch. Make-up tests will only be allowed for excused absences and must be done so after or before school hours by appointment within 3 school days. A review of the material will be held on the day(s) before the test. This may include a practice test, a review sheet, or something similar. Homework and Class work: (10 points each) Homework and class work will mostly consist of questions from your textbook so you must be prepared and bring it every day. Homework will be checked for completeness and effort not correctness but a list of only answers will not suffice. Remember that all homework must be completed and turned in to take round 2 tests. At the beginning of each class homework will be checked during warm ups and then after warms we will go over the homework. Warm Ups (Up to 5% Extra Credit): You will earn extra credit points based on how many warm up questions are answered correctly. Warm Up questions will consist of current material on Mondays through Thursdays and Practice ACT questions on Fridays. You must show work to get credit! It will be your responsibility to pick up your warm up sheet daily. Warm up sheets will be turned and checked daily. Warm Up Extra Credit points will be added at the end of each quarter. Daily Quizzes (Exit Slips) Daily Quizzes will be given during the last 10 to 15 minutes of class to check for understanding. They will consist of approximately 5 questions covering the video lesson from the night before along with the practice problems done during that days class. Class Materials: A 2 inch 3 ring binder A set of page dividers Loose leaf notebook paper Graph paper Pencils or black pens only Graphing Calculator Class Procedures Beginning of Class Grab your Warm Up Sheet and have a seat in your assigned seat before the bell rings and begin on the warm up exercise. During Warm Ups attendance and homework will be checked and then Warm Up Sheets will be collected. We will go over Warm Ups and homework and then begin the lesson. End of Class The last 10 minutes of class you will have time to work on your daily quiz. Please use this time wisely and efficiently. I will dismiss the class, not the bell. I am truly looking forward to a great year with your child(ren) in my class. This will be my eight year at Williamstown High School. If you should ever have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at school. During the school day my planning hour is from 1:55 to 2:55. If I am unable to speak with you at that time, I will return your call as soon as possible. We do have voice mail but my preference in communication will be e-mail which I check on a regular basis. My e-mail address is bryan.winkle@williamstown.kyschool.us. Please feel free to contact me at any time. Also, I would like to send out notifications to parents on upcoming tests and other major assignments. If you have an e-mail account and would like to receive e-mail announcements please provide that information at the bottom of the letter. I will also be keeping an assignments calendar on my website in which you may check if your child has an assignment. I will also being using the Remind App to send out notifications. Honors Geometry will be a flipped classroom this year. A flipped classroom is where basically a normal classroom is flipped backwards in what is done. Students will not be doing the learning at home via videos made by me and then doing the practice work here at school with me so that they can get the immediate help and feedback they need. There will be a short meeting in the evening sometime late August or early September to better describe this concept for parents. I will communicate this date as soon as I know it myself to all parents via e-mail and the Remind App. The students will be assessed in many different ways in my class through out the school year. There will be a test at the end of each unit which will count for 100% of the final grade. Even though homework is not graded it is vital for the learning process and must be completed to be eligible to take round 2 tests. If you know that your child will be absent from school in advance please contact me to get their assignments to insure that your child does not fall behind in the class or check my school webpage to keep up with assignments. Please take a few minutes to go over the grading policies and rules and expectations for my class on the syllabus. I want your child to succeed in my math class and if there is any additional information that may be helpful in your child’s success please make me aware as soon as possible. Once again I am looking forward to a great school year with you and your child in my math class! Thank You, Bryan Winkle I have seen and reviewed the syllabus for Mr. Winkle’s Math class. ______________________ Parent Signature _____________________ Student’s Name Date ______________________ __________________________________________________________________________ E-mail address
