Galesburg-Augusta High School Accounting Syllabus Ms. Hawk 2015 - 2016 I. Course Description (Prerequisite: None). This course is a part of the “Business, Management, Accounting and Technology” Career Pathways that the State of Michigan has defined. This two-semester course is offered to introduce students to Accounting. This course is a study of accounting and real life information about business, professional business ethics, accounting careers, technology in business, and legal issues in accounting. Students will develop proficiency in basic accounting skills, automated accounting, employability skills and work place know how skills. The evaluation for this course is based on attendance, class participation, small group project, quizzes, and test. This course is articulated with a fourth year math credit can be earned with successful completion of this course. II. Goal/Purpose of the Course The goal of this course is to learn the importance of accounting which is a systematic process of identifying, recording, measuring, classifying, verifying, summarizing, interpreting and communicating financial information. III. Objectives Upon completion of this course the students will be able to: A. Learn and complete the accounting cycle B. Read financial statements C. Discuss techniques and strategies used in finance to foster positive, ongoing relationships with customers D. Students will be required to be responsible for coming to class with the following materials: Pencil/pen, paper, and completed homework assignments. B. Each student as explained in class will practice classroom procedures and rules. C. Students have one day for each absence, plus one additional day, to make up work missed or to make arrangements with me to make up the work. D. Students must comply with the terms of the Acceptable Use Agreement on file with the school. VI. 4th Year Math Credit A. Students will be required to receive a 70% in the math category to earn a 4th year math credit. VII. Articulation A. Students will be required to have an overall B average to receive articulation at Baler College, Davenport University, Ferris State University, Grand Rapids CC, Kalamazoo Valley CC, and Lake Michigan College. VIII. Evaluation/Assessment of Student Performance General Expectation Students will be expected to use class time efficiently. Daily assignments will be due on the day assigned, unless otherwise instructed. Effective communication between the student and instructor is promoted. Grades will be posted periodically so students will be aware of their progress. Games are not allowed.
