December , 2015 4th Grade Newsletter READING In Language Arts we will be startng our new classs novel, Holes,by Louis Sacher. We will be using the novel to build upon comprehension skills, carácter description, new vocabulary, figurative language, and even introducing mythology. We will learn more about mammals, and states of matter MATH .Fourth grade math is preparing for the state tes in April/May. We will be doing regular test prep along with daily math work/ A big part of 4th grade is multiplication facts. SOCIAL STUDIES In Social Studies we are beginning the War of 1812 and working out way into the Civil War. Students will use their research skills to créate a poster about the Civil War. They will make connections with past novels read in class while writing. Students will pick their own novel as their in class focus read. Students will begin to learn how composition and proprties of matter begin to change shape and form. MATH Building upon our math skills- using multiplication and división math families, students will master Word problems. Once stdents begin to master Word problems we will slowly incorpórate fractions. SOCIAL STUDIES Students are studying the Constitution and the powers of government. They will become apart of their own “government within the classroom.
