The Source of
Temptation
JAMES 1:13-18
PASTOR KEONE
James 1:13-15
13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is
tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by
evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each one is
tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is
dragged away and enticed. 15 Then, after desire
has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when
it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Temptation:
an opportunity to accomplish a good thing
in a bad way, out of the will of God.

16 Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. 17 Every
good and perfect gift is from above, coming down
from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does
not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to
give us birth through the word of truth, that we
might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Genesis 3:1-6
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild
animals the LORD God had made. He said to the
woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from
any tree in the garden'?" 2 The woman said to the
serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,
3 but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree
that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not
touch it, or you will die.'" 4 "You will not surely die," the
serpent said to the woman. 5 "For God knows that
when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you
will be like God, knowing good and evil." 6 When the
woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food
and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining
wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some
to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
