Connectors, Mavens, and Salesmen

The Tipping Point
By Malcolm Gladwell
“
In a social epidemic, mavens are data
banks. They provide the message. Connectors
are social glue: they spread it. But there is
also a select group of people—Salesmen—
with skills to persuade us when we are
unconvinced of what we are hearing, and
they are as critical to the tipping of word—
of—mouth epidemics as the other two groups
(Gladwell,70).”
“
Perhaps it is best to call the
Connectors impulse simply that—an
impulse, just one of the many
personality traits that distinguish
one human being from another
(Gladwell,46)”

Connectors are those people who are extroverts
they are the out going people in life. They
converse with many people from all walks of life.
Such as George Gershwin.

How
does this
make you a
connector?
“to
be a maven is to be
a teacher. But it is also,
even more
empathetically, to be a
student.” (Gladwell 69)
 “The
fact that Mavens want to help, for no
other reason then because they like to help,
turns out to be an awfully effective way of
getting someone's attention.”(Gladwell 67)

Uses pathos to get your attention and make you
remember that person in the grocery store that
helped you pick out a new drink and now its your
favorite.
What
do you
think Mavens do
in there free
time?
“For
a social epidemic to start,
though, some people are going
to have to be persuaded to do
something.” (Gladwell 69)
 Uses
logic, for one thing to lead to
another, something must put it in
motion.
Product persuasion
Product= new phone,
features never seen before
price= 39.99 with taxes
You have= 50 dollars to
spend
Do you believe you
would be an easy
target for a major
salesmen like Gau?
Why or Why Not?
How
do Mavens,
Connectors, and
Salesman work together
to start a word of mouth
epidemic?
