Grade 6 Odyssey Book Project for Q2 AR book 1: This book can be fiction or nonfiction. The first book reflection will be due on Thursday, October 30 and the second on Tuesday, November 11. The AR test will need to be taken by Friday, November 14. For each reflection you will need to record the following: Page numbers you have read (at least 50) What you learned that was new and interesting (provide page numbers with specific details) What are you expecting to read or learn about next in the book AR book 2: This book will need to be fiction. You will complete a book project, see below, and an AR Test. The book project and AR test are due Monday, December 15. Fiction book project criteria: 1. Students will need to write a summary of the characters, setting, conflict, and solution. Summary (25 points) 2. Students will need to complete a Venn diagram comparing two characters. A minimum of seven similarities and differences will need to be included. Venn diagram (15 points) 3. Students will need to complete one of the following book related activities listed below. Project (40 points) 4. Students will present the summary, Venn diagram, and project in class. Presentation (20 points) Scene illustrations You must choose 8-10 of the most important scenes from your book and illustrate them. You may use your own drawings, photos, magazine pictures, or other art. You will need to write a caption (a brief explanation) about each of your illustrations. I must be able to understand the plot of your novel by studying your illustrations and captions. Journal entries – at least 10 entries in a journal-style presentation Assume the identity of one of the characters of the book for your journal writing. Story continuation Continue the story beyond its natural ending. Write 1-2 pages. Be creative, be imaginative! Letter exchange. Create a letter exchange between a character and the author or write a series of self-reflective letters from several characters on what the character learned about himself, others, and life. Talk show host Create a talk show and interview two of the characters in your story. Write four or more interview questions for your characters and their responses to your questions. Pick two classmates to play your characters and have your talk show during class. Students are to choose an AR book based on the current Lexile levels for grades 6 and 7. The Lexile levels for 6th grade are 925L to 1070L and 7th grade 970L to 1120L. Please record the books you would like to read below. You will need both parent and teacher approval.
