Create a Multi-Tier Timeline
Instructions:
To demonstrate your understanding of timeline, you must piece together a multi-tier
timeline. Your timeline is of the Western Hemisphere (The Americas) and the Eastern Hemisphere
(Europe, Africa and Asia) from 1200-1800. Follow the steps below to complete your timeline.
Step 1: You must use all the events below in your timeline. There must be seven events on each
line. One set of seven are events that occurred in the Western Hemisphere while the other set
must be events that occurred in the Eastern Hemisphere. Label each one E or W (Eastern
Hemisphere or Western Hemisphere) and then place it on the timeline.
1776 English colonies declare independence from England.
1783 Treaty of Paris of 1783 signed between Britain and the United States to end the war and
officially recognized the U.S. as a nation.
1215 In England, King John signs the Magna Carta.
1775 1st shots fired in Lexington and Concord, starting the Revolutionary War.
1689 William and Mary sign the English Bill of Rights.
1787 Founding Fathers write the Constitution.
1754 The French and Indian War begins in the Americas.
1650 The Enlightenment begins in Europe.
1607 1st successful English colony Jamestown, Virginia.
1756 The Seven Years War between France and Britain is declared in Europe.
1681 William Penn colonizes Pennsylvania for religious tolerance.
1763 Treaty of Paris signed. The French and Indian War ends.
1763 Parliament passes the Proclamation of 1763 to protect colonists and save money
1773 The Boston Tea Party
Step 2: Create a timeline. On a legal piece of paper, draw your plot lines, make your anchor dates,
and title your timeline. USE PENCIL making your plotlines and anchor dates in case you mess up.
Step 3: Give your timeline a title. Place each event in its correct chronological order. You must
draw a picture to describe each event visually, and write in the pre-made description from this
page. Lastly, you must place the date of the event on the correct plot line.
