• Have you ever finished reading
something, only to realize you can’t
say much about it?
• You read the words, but you didn’t
really get any meaning.
• Comprehensions means
understanding
Before Reading: Preview
the story and set a purpose
for reading
• Look at the titles and
picture
• Skim through and read a
few words on each page

• Scan a few of the words on each page
• Discuss with group what you think
the story will be about
During Reading: Connect
• Do the characters share
thoughts or experiences that
you have read?
• Does the story remind you of an
event or a person you’ve hear
or read about?

But, because they had stars, all the Star-Belly Sneetches
Would brag, “We’re the best kind of Sneetch on the beaches.”
With their snoots in the air, they would sniff and they’d snort
“We’ll have nothing to do with the Plain-Belly sort!”
And, whenever they met some, when they were out walking,
They’d hike right on past them without even talking.
When the Star-Belly children went out to play ball,
Could a Plain Belly get in the game? Not at all.
You only could play if your bellies had stars
And the Plain-Belly children had none upon thars.

And that’s how they
Sneetches had frankfurter treated them year after
roasts
year.
Or picnics or parties or
Then ONE day, it seems
marshmallow toasts,
while the Plain-Belly
Sneetches
They never invited the
Plain-Belly Sneetches
Were moping and doping
They left them out cold, in alone on the beaches,
the dark of the beaches. Just sitting there wishing
their bellies had stars,
They kept them away.
Never let them come near. A stranger zipped up in the
strangest of cars!
