What are graphic scores? Graphic scores • A graphic score is a way in which a composer can compose a piece without using common music notation. Using Symbols to represent instruments • When using a graphic score, you need to assign each instrument a symbol. • The symbols can be simple or complicated, it is up to you! • Each symbol should be different so that the score is easy to read. Graphic scores are a way in which we can write music without having to write musical notes. You can use shapes and symbols in your graphic score to represent an instrument. Here is an example below using a drum, triangle and hands. In groups of three, try to play the graphic score above, and then when you are ready put up your hand to play it for the rest of the class.
