MUSC 251, MUSIC THEORY 3
Dr. Mary Ellen Haupert, Instructor
Music Composition at VU
The students you’ll meet in this power-point are
beginning their second year of music theory (sophomore
year), which involves two semesters of MUSIC
COMPOSITION. Past sophomore music students
composed EARTHTONES, LIFENOTES, PEACE BY PIECE,
CHECCHS MATES, and RUMI-NATIONS.
The 2015-2016 class of students is looking forward to
stories about you and/or your country (Palestine) that
might set to music!
Peace and all good,
Dr. Mary Ellen Haupert, Professor of Music
Emma Woods
Hello! My name is Emma Woods, and I’m from a small town in
Minnesota called Granite Falls. My town’s population is about
3,000 people. I really enjoyed my childhood in Granite Falls, and I
have always been grateful to have grown up in a small
community. I am currently a sophomore, vocal performance
major at Viterbo University. I love music; especially opera! My
goal for when I graduate from college is to perform in operas and
share my passion for music with the world. Besides music, my
interests are reading, spending time with friends, and being out
in nature. I love spending as much time outside as I can! I often
times will grab my favorite book, and sit in the grass reading. I
also am a big geek. I love the Lord of the Rings books and
movies, the TV show Doctor Who, and lots of other things that
are nerdy. I really enjoy being myself and not being afraid to
express my own, unique personality!
Olivia Krautkramer
Hello! My name is Olivia Krautkramer. I am a
sophomore at Viterbo University double majoring in
Music Education and Piano Performance. I am
hoping to one day teach music in an elementary
school classroom. I am from Kewaskum, WI. My
mother was my biggest influence in wanting to
become a teacher. She teaches early childhood
special education. I also have two older sisters, a
younger brother, a brother-in-law, and am expecting
my first niece in December! Music has always been
a large part of all of our lives. I love to perform in
musicals and have participated in many shows
including Little Women, Thoroughly Modern Millie,
and Seussical the Musical. I also enjoy playing
soccer, reading, and spending time with friends and
family. I haven't done much composition in the past,
but am very excited for this opportunity!
Arianna Day
Hello! My name is Arianna Day and I am a sophomore Vocal
Performance Major and Business Administration Minor at
Viterbo University. I am from a small town called Platteville, WI
where I was always involved in music throughout my childhood
and high school career. I grew up in a family of musicians; my
mother teaches voice at UW-Platteville, my dad drums in a band
on the weekends, my grandma is a local piano teacher, and all
of my aunts and uncles play a musical instrument or sing. I
have just one brother who is a 22 year old software developer,
but he also plays piano and sings. I played the piano,
saxophone, marimba, and viola throughout high school, along
with being involved in many choirs and musicals, but singing
has always been a priority of mine. My family inspires me to be
the best musician possible and I strive for that every day.
Abigail Hall
Hi! My name is Abigail Hall and I am a Sophomore Music
Performance and History double major at Viterbo
University. I am from Kellogg, Minnesota, which is a small
town along the Mississippi River. I am the youngest in my
family. I have two sisters and a brother. One of my older
sisters, Allison, loves to sing and has always encouraged
me to sing. Now that I have a niece and nephew, I enjoy
sharing my love for music with them. We love to sing and
dance together! Some of my other hobbies are reading,
sewing, and spending time with my friends.
Claire Olson
My name is Claire Olson and I’m a junior Vocal Performance
major. I’m from a small town called Holmen, which is located in
Wisconsin close to La Crosse. I love to sing, and in my free time I
have a lot of hobbies that I love doing. I journal, write songs and
poetry, come up with new ideas for books that I’m writing, read
(my favorite book series are Eragon and Harry Potter), learn
new languages (including Korean, German, Norwegian, Irish,
and many others!), long board (which is like skateboarding),
fence (aka, learn the art of swordplay), play my violin, hang out
with my friends, and take care of my miniature horse (his name
is Rocket and he’s pretty adorable).
Madison Gruman
My name is Madison Gruman. I am nineteen years old. I
am a sophomore at Viterbo University. I am double
majoring in Music Education and Music Performance. At
Viterbo, I am involved with the Opera, Concert Choir and a
Show Choir. I grew up in Burlington, Wisconsin. When I
was younger my father died and my mother remarried. I
have 1 sister, 1 step-sister and 2 step-brothers. I love to
sing, dance, and perform. The past two summers I
performed with a group called, "Kids from Wisconsin". We
perform over 60 shows in a 2 month time period. I also like
to wakeboard, snow ski, shop, play soccer and be with my
friends and family. I am very passionate about music. I
have never done a composition before, but am looking
forward to the experience.
Nick Temte
