QUALITY MANAGEMENT POLICY
1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 The College aims to provide the highest quality education and training to our
local, national and international communities of students and employers.
1.2 The College will drive to create an excellent learning environment where all
individuals are treated equally and fairly to gain the skills, attitudes and
behaviours they need to progress to employment or further study.
1.3 The College is committed to developing, improving and enhancing the services
it provides through regular review and evaluation of its performance.
1.4 The College believes that its students, customers and clients are central to the
achievement of its mission, and will endeavour to identify their needs and seek
feedback on services received.

SCOPE
2.1 This policy applies to all the educational, training and associated services
provided by the College.
2.2 A single quality management system is in place to meet both internal and
external requirements.

KEY PRINCIPLESi
3.1 The College offers qualifications and awards accredited by UK national
Awarding Bodies. The College delivers these qualifications and awards in
compliance to each Awarding Bodies’ Quality Assurance requirements.
3.2 The College can also credit rate its own devised programmes of study
underpinned by the principles and practices of the Scottish Credit and
Qualifications Framework (SCQF).
3.3 Internal quality review and verification activities are carried out to ensure
compliance with College policies and procedures and the requirements of
Awarding Bodies and other stakeholders.
3.4 Self-evaluation is carried out by the College as part of its annual quality
improvement cycle. It is expected that teams/areas evaluate their performance
using the criteria detailed in the Scottish Funding Council (SFC)/Education
Scotland (EdS) Quality Framework.
3.5 The process of self-evaluation is used to support quality assurance,
improvement and enhancement to improve the student experience.
3.6 Outcomes of self-evaluation and internal quality review activities are used to
inform operational plans at all appropriate levels and influence policies and
procedures.
3.7 Outcomes of self-evaluation and analysis of Key Performance Measures are
used to inform actions to improve student achievement, retention and
progression rates.
3.8 Stakeholder surveys are undertaken to provide feedback on the services that
the College provides. This feedback contributes to the evidence base for selfevaluation.
3.9 Student data is analysed to ensure fair and equal opportunities for all our
students and that specific needs are being met.
3.10 All aspects of the College’s business are subject to review and monitoring to
ensure continuous business improvement.
3.11 All aspects of the College’s business are covered by relevant policies and
procedures.

3.12 All policies and procedures are subject to regular review in consultation with
staff and others as appropriate, and revised as necessary to ensure that they
remain relevant and effective.
3.13 The College will monitor and analyse all complaints to help improve learning
and teaching, support services, improve relationships with our students and
customers and enhance public perceptions of the college.
3.14 The College will seek to achieve recognition for the achievement of other quality
standards if attaining these standards enhances the work of the College or its
reputation.

LINES OF RESPONSIBILITY
4.1 The Edinburgh College Senior Management Team has overall responsibility for
this policy.
4.2 Campus Management Teams are responsible for implementing the policy.
4.3 The Quality Team is responsible for:

4.6 All managers are responsible for ensuring their staff comply with this general
policy and its associated specific policies and procedures.
4.7 All staff are responsible for quality assurance, improvement and enhancement
in relation to their own areas of work and within the teams of which they are
members.

EFFECTIVE DATE
7.1 This Policy and its supporting Procedures become effective from 22 October
and supersede all previous policies and procedures relating to Quality
Management.
