Persuasive Speech: Audience Assessment
Specific Goal: My audience will believe why a cat makes a good pet.
Type of Claim: This is a claim of _____value________ .
Ethos: Primary Ethos:
1.
Competence: I have always had a cat for a pet and it is the best thing I did.
Fairness: I will fairly state the facts about why a cat makes a good pet, and also give
some disadvantages also.
2.
Secondary Ethos: I will cite 3 references regarding why a cat makes a good pet.
NOTE: A minimum of three references is required in each speech. If you selected a number less than three, stop

Audience Assessment: Most of my audience members will probably have an attitude toward my proposition that
is neutral because most of them have lived with me with a cat as a pet.
Adaptation to Audience Attitude:
Common ground: I will explain why cats make good pets and offer what it has done for me as a
single lady living by herself.

Latitude of acceptance: I think most of them will accept because they like cats and have also had them as pets.

Hook: Cats make great pets especially for someone who is single like me. They are great companions.

Preview: I will tell you about the advantages of having a cat as a pet like it is easy to take care of, they could have
great health benefits for the owner, and they are entertaining.

Conclusion
I am so happy that I am a cat lover and that I am able to have such a cute cat named Frankie. Being single and
living alone he has been the best thing that came into my life. There are nights that I am so grateful that I have
him in my life.
