Type of Claim: This is a claim of _____value________ . Ethos: Primary Ethos: 1. Competence: I have always had a cat for a pet and it is the best thing I did. Fairness: I will fairly state the facts about why a cat makes a good pet, and also give some disadvantages also. 2. Secondary Ethos: I will cite 3 references regarding why a cat makes a good pet. NOTE: A minimum of three references is required in each speech. If you selected a number less than three, stop now. Go back and find more authoritative references. Audience Assessment: Most of my audience members will probably have an attitude toward my proposition that is neutral because most of them have lived with me with a cat as a pet. Adaptation to Audience Attitude: Common ground: I will explain why cats make good pets and offer what it has done for me as a single lady living by herself. 1. Latitude of acceptance: I think most of them will accept because they like cats and have also had them as pets. Baby Steps: I will show enthusiasm and give great examples as to why cats make better pets. They are great companions. Proposition (or Hint at Proposition): My goal is to let my audience believe that Cat’s do make great pets. Preview: I will tell you about the advantages of having a cat as a pet like it is easy to take care of, they could have great health benefits for the owner, and they are entertaining. 1. Easy to take care of 2.Health benefits 3.Entertaining Transition: Cats are much easier to take care of. They take little of your time and easy to maintain. Body I. Cats are easy to take care of and require little use of your time. 1. Care is minimal Feed Twice a day b. clean litter once a week (depends on how many cats) 1. most cats smell better, minimal shedding 2. purr when they are hungry or happy 3. Inexpensive to keep Other then food and cat litter and shots, cats are pretty affordable Transition: Another way that a cat is the best pet is that it gives you health benefits. They make such great companions II. Per www.catworld.com it states that "Pet owners have been shown to reduce levels of stress, depression and lower blood pressure. Cat owners have been shown to have an improved immune function, and can help to reduce the chance of allergies and asthma in children." 1. Cats are entertaining to watch and play Conclusion I am so happy that I am a cat lover and that I am able to have such a cute cat named Frankie. Being single and living alone he has been the best thing that came into my life. There are nights that I am so grateful that I have him in my life.
