Volume 10 Issue 1 .......... .............. May 2006 LETTER FROM YOUR PRESIDENT Congratulations PEAM on being voted PHBA's APA of the year for the second year in a row. Everyone in PEAM made this possible through the year. Thank you and congratulations! Well the year is already flying by I am sure some of you are already on the road to shows. The banquet went well and the food was great. Officers and committees are posted in the newsletter and on the website. The meeting in February went well and some members took a tour of our facility in Sedalia. I believe it will be a great location. The Spring Fling is just around the corner don't forget to bring your favorite dish for the BBQ and an auction item for Saturday night. The PHBA convention went well - thanks to all the members who attended so PEAM could have a voice in decision at a national level. Congratulations to all of the members who received an award at the banquet. PEAM was well represented. The 2005 show year was a great success and I am looking forward to a great 2006. Amberly Phelps, PEAM President RR3, Box 193 Rich Hill, Mo 64779 (417) 395-4822 aphelp@richhill.k12.mo.us DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE PICNIC SUPPER AND AUCTION SATURDAY NIGHTBRING AN AUCTION ITEM, SIDE DISH AND LAWN CHAIR AND JOIN US FOR FOOD & SOCIALIZING! THE YOUTH SPONSORED DOG RACES WILL TAKE PLACE AFTER THE AUCTION!! BRING A BAG OF DOG FOOD FOR THE YOUTH TO DONATE TO AN AREA ANIMAL SHELTER AND RECEIVE A DISCOUNT ON YOUR ENTRY FEES! SHOW MANAGER'S REPORT: This season has sure taken off and its getting harder to get all the farm chores done in-between shows! Our Spring Fling circuit show is just right around the corner! I would like to thank all those that have helped me get the shows organized, especially my wife Jenny. She has kept me on task and watched out for all the deadlines. I won't repeat a lot of information as it is contained on the show bill and website, but I would like to highlight a few items: If you would like to be stalled by someone, or you need any other special accommodations, please let me know just as soon as possible, so I can get the details worked out for you. As a group, we'll be together and we won't be spread out through the barns like we have been at past locations. If you need shavings, you must pay the State Fair personnel directly. We cannot put shavings on your tab. If you need shavings and will be arriving after 10 p.m., you must call me and let me know so that I can make special arrangements for you. If you plan on arriving at the Fairgrounds before 3 p.m. on Friday, let me know so I can alert security about your early arrival and they will know what to do with you. There will be a $10/stall charge for early arrivals, so please plan accordingly. This will help make things run smoother for all of us. RV hookups need to be paid directly to the State Fair personnel. There will be no tabs for hookups. Watch for the NO PARKING signs. The State Fair enforces this rigidly due to fire and safety regulations. Susan Noeller will be our official photographer. I will close by saying that this is going to be a great year and a new adventure for PEAM. Please let me know of your plans and needs as soon as possible so that we may accommodate you! Drive safely! See ya at the show! YOUTH PRESIDENT'S UPDATE: Hey Guys! What is up??? Nothing really with me except wanting school to be over! I guess that qualifies for pretty much all of us huh? Hahaha! So has anyone had any new babies? My sister's horse had a filly not to long ago, unfortunately it is red not yellow! But don't be too unhappy, I am staying with the Yellow horses for now! Anyway down to business, I'll have more time to talk with you all at the show coming up in June. I did go to Tulsa to PHBA Convention in March and even though there weren't that many kids, we all had a blast! The first day, Heather Williams took us to "Incredible Pizza," which was like a pizza shoppe. Besides pizza, there was bowling, a movie theatre, and arcade all in one! It was pretty cool!! We also went swimming and jacuzzin'at the Double Tree. The youth assisted at the PHBA benefit auction and at our meeting, we made important decisions concerning classes & rule book changes for the future of PHBA. This year at the World there will be a benefit Open Free Style Horsemanship Class for everyone that would like to participate. We talked about other possible fundraisers and how the Youth World show went last year. We plan to keep the Friday night dance and the theme for this year is "Hollywood." Start planning your outfits as we get to dress up like cool movie stars! Plans are being made to have a "progressive dinner" at each state's stall area one night. Each state needs to bring a unique dish representing their state. We thought maybe sweet corn would be a good thing for our state in July! Let us know if you'll have any ready to eat by the World Show time! This dinner will be held one evening in the middle of the show schedule. Our wristband sales got off to a good start at the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Palomino show as Libby and I took them with us to sell. We also sold quite a few at the PHBA convention and at the Pony Express Horse Show Circuit Kick Off event in March. I want to wish you all a joyful and fulfilling show season! Whether you started to show in early February or your first show will be the first PEAM's in June GOOD LUCK!! And don't forget to buy a wristband to support your favorite horse.... the AMERICAN LOVED Yellow horse! Happy Trails, Catherine Tudor, Youth President COME JOIN US AT 8PM ON FRIDAY NIGHT, JUNE 2 FOR A RECEPTION TO HONOR OUR 2005 PEAM PHBA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! Only about one more month and you'll be out of school! Best wishes to all our graduating seniors! Hope you're finding time to get your horse ready for the summer show season! Perhaps you've already been on the road showing! We hope you have it in your plans to attend the Spring Fling show June 3 & 4. We will be having a Youth meeting Friday evening around 7PM. We'll have pizza for you too while we discuss our plans for stall decorations and the Parade of States at the World Show. I will have supplies for you to work on your page so that we can include it in our scrapbook for the World Show. Even if you do not plan on showing in Tulsa in July, we'd like for you to have a page in our book that will be on display and part of our stall decorations. Be sure to bring a few photos of you and your horse to make a page! After the meeting there will be a reception for our national PHBA High Point youth winners: Amanda Rohwedder, Libby Tudor, and Paige Murphy. Be sure to stay and celebrate with them! We will have cake & punch! I'm sure they would be willing to share some of their 'climb to the top' strategies if others of you would so inspire to earn the high point title. Plan on helping with the youth sponsored dog races on Saturday night after the auction. Bring your dog too & join in on the fun!!! Bethany Balk will be helping us get the activity organized. We'd like all the youth to pitch in and help get the race courses set up, run the timers, take money & dog food, and then pass out the prizes! If you have anything you would like to bring and donate to the PEAM benefit auction on Saturday night, that would be awesome! Be sure to note on the card that your items should benefit the youth! Yes, we're still selling clothes and tack!! We had a good sale at the Pony Express Horse Show Circuit Spring Kick Off event in March and also at the ISU Block and Bridle Show in Des Moines in April. If you have any clothing, horse related items, or tack to donate to the youth to sell for you, be sure to bring it along to the Spring Fling show. If we sell your item, you get 75% of the proceeds and the youth group gets 25%. Our wristband sales are going well. Be sure to get orders from your friends and family so you can take some home to them after the Spring Fling show!! We will also have them at the Palomino World to sell. We've got some terrific Youth Class Circuit Champion awards ready for you to win at the 2006 shows!! Thanks again to all the people and businesses that purchased ads in our Youth Calendar so that we would have funds to purchase the prizes for the youth classes! Have patience with me and getting the points tabulated, as this will be my first attempt to do this on a large scale. I've been working on a computer program to compile the points, so hopefully that will help! This year we are having Novice Youth classes at our shows. Pass the word!! Bring your friends with yellow horses! As long as you don't have 50 PHBA points, you can show in Novice classes!! Check out the PHBA rule book (Rule 6021) on-line at the PHBA website for more details! For those of you that are planning to show at the World Show, let us know ASAP. PEAM youth will pay for a tack stall if you would like to leave your tack, clothes, etc. at the barn. Also, remember that if you want a refund for some of your entry fees, you must do work credits to qualify. You can donate items to the clothing sale and benefit auction, sell wristbands, or help at the dog races to qualify for your refund. We hope to be able to fund some fun activities for you while you are at the show as well. The Big Splash Water Park, Bell's Amusement Park, the horse races, and a Driller's baseball game are just a few of the fun things that can be done right there at the fairgrounds in Tulsa. Hope to see you in June! If you have any questions about anything, give us a call, or drop us an e-mail!
