NOT LEGAL ADVICE:
The information covered in the website (listed above), in it’s links, in
MGT 330 class, in the textbook, in emails or during office hours does
NOT constitute legal advice or the giving of a legal opinion. Nothing
provided herein should be used as a substitute for the advice of your
own legal counsel.
MGT 330 is the ONLY required law class many of you will take
before you graduate. You have chosen to take this class in an
100% online format. If you get behind you will be lost due to
the complexity and volume of the material missed. You will be
graduating and going into business into an extremely litigious
society. Understanding law basics is essential! We will be
covering many different substantive areas of law this semester.
Each chapter lays a foundation for subsequent chapters. The
class is difficult, time consuming, and staying current on the
homework, discussions, and testing are crucial!
Don’t get behind! If you get behind you will NOT be able to get
caught up. YOU must do your part to approach the material
prepared, rested, with a positive attitude, and ready to learn!
The final exam is CUMULATIVE!
“Law Firm” 3 specified threads/ chapter = Class Participation:
(Please note: class participation grade will not be updated daily but instead will be
updated on the Bb grade book after each of the four “UNIT” exams and at the time
of the CUMULATIVE final. No class participation points can be earned on final
exam day).
You will be placed into “law firms”. Each chapter will require you to explore
and then to discuss designated law links, videos, and content related
questions. Each chapter requires a student to constructively contribute to
their law firm discussion a minimum of three times. For a contribution to
count it must show reasoning. For example, stating “ I agree” would not count
as a class participation point, but “ I agree because (stating reasons why)”
would count. There are 24 chapters, and each chapter carries a possible 3
points for class participation. The class participation must be given by
NOON ON THE DAY OF THE ASSIGNMENT. IF IT IS LATE, IT WILL
NOT COUNT. A possible total amount of class participation is 3 times 24
chapters= 72 points total for the semester. *Click on toolbar link entitled “law
firms” and click on your law firm link. No later than NOON (on the date
underlined in the syllabus) for the assigned chapter you will add no less than
3 separate threads. Any comments posted after 12 noon will not be counted
towards class participation for that chapter/day. The minimum requirements
must be done in the following format:
- Label this thread “Comments/ questions memo of (add your name)” you
want to discuss with your law firm regarding the substance of the chapter
you have just read
-Label this thread- “Video memo of (add your name)” and summarize in a
minimum of 4 sentences your thoughts about what you found most helpful
about the viewed videos
-Label this thread- “Website memo of (add your name)” and summarize in a
minimum of 4 sentences your thoughts about what you found most helpful
after checking out the websites
Testing:
Each chapter test is due NO LATER than MIDNIGHT of the last
day that chapter is ASSIGNED. You are reminded of the deadlines
again on the “Assignment” links on Bb.
There will be NO makeup for missed exams.
Failing to take your exam during the allotted time will result
in a grade of 0. Once an exam begins the student must stay and
finish the exam. You are allowed to take and exam /test/
homework assignment only once to cut down on the possibility
of a possible academic integrity violation. No assistance by
book, notes, text messaging, calls, or others is allowed during
exams/ testing/ or homework. No one is allowed to take the
exam for you. No recording or copying devices are to be used
during testing/ exams/ homework All Academic Integrity

helpful to brief (outline) them on a separate sheet of paper to enhance
your understanding of the material. The following format seems to
work well. Please know that in the Ebook the cases are largely prebriefed for you!
(1)
(2)
(3)
Facts: A brief statement of the facts of the case.
Issue: State the issue of law to be resolved. (Remember that the
reason the case is in the text is to illustrate some point of law in
the chapter.)
Reasoning and Holding of the Court. How and why the Court
ruled the way they did in the case.
Virtual Office Hours- Please use your law firm as your regular study group. MGT
330 Virtual Office Hour Class Bulletin board Guidelines:
*Students are to use their law firms to answer questions about the chapters. After
talking with your law firm a question still remains, each law firm is allowed to place
no more than one question/ chapter on the virtual office hour bulletin board for
class-wide discussion.
*Responses from the teacher will be posted on the Virtual Office Bulletin Board.
Every effort, during the regular semester, will be made to respond MWF within 24
hours of posting (unless an announcement has been made otherwise on Bb).
*MGT 330 Content –related questions should not be emailed to the teacher, instead
they must be placed on the class bulletin board, so all students can benefit.
*If an email is sent to the teacher that applies to the entire class the teacher may
respond to the question raised on the virtual office hour discussion board.
Emailing the teacher would be allowed in the following situations:
The student has and can provide, prior to the deadline on the
designated day for the exam to the Dept. of Business Administration to
the ATTN: of the teacher, a scanned copy of a valid Doctor’s note
saying the student was too sick to take an exam on the scheduled exam
day.
The student has emailed or turned in hard copy (prior to the deadline)
on the designated day for the exam to the ATTN: of the teacher, proof
that an immediate family member has just died or is in a serious
medical condition in the hospital and the student’s presence at the
hospital or funeral is needed by the family which would cause a
student to be unavailable to take an exam on the scheduled exam day
Upon required timely notice and required written proof being provided
to the teacher, the student would be granted additional time to take
the test. Failure by the student to meet the requirements set
forth above would mean a grade of zero on the missed work.
Please note: Notice of a computer related problem which
prohibited the student from completing/submitting an
assignment is outlined below
Examinations and Grading:
Each exam will consist of multiple choice questions. Grading is
objective and the questions will be taken from the textbook and related
materials. ALL EXAMS ARE CLOSED BOOK AND CLOSED NOTES.
Since students are allowed to work ahead in the material, class
discussion, and testing (and for academic integrity concerns)
only the grade will be provided for the chapter, unit, and
cumulative final. Feedback WILL be given, though, on the
interactive quiz.

access a working computer with a consistent and reliable internet
connection you will not be able to complete this class. I understand that even
in the best circumstances computer problems will arise. I offer each student ONE

MGT 330
The subject areas covered in this course are extremely difficult. The
cumulative exam in MGT 491 will also cover Business Law. Make sure to
keep your notes until you have completed MGT 491. The amount of material
to be covered in this course, and the depth of the coverage, probably is not exceeded
in any course you have taken, or will take. THEREFORE, if you wish to do well,
you will be required to read, concentrate, review, re-read, analyze, and re-analyze.
In order to cover all the material, and cover it well, there is a heavy burden on the
student to be well prepared everyday and to raise questions with your law firm
about what you do not understand.
*Do Not take MGT 330 until you have the required time to be successful in
the class. Each day’s class preparation should take a minimum of 4-5
hours.
Assignments are listed on BB. You will have assignments for each M-F day
of the semester. Weekends are off.
Note: underlined dates below indicate that class participation is
due no later than noon on that date / interactive quiz and
chapter exam must be completed by midnight on that date (or
they will not be counted). The final cumulative exam MUST be
completed before NOON on the designated day.
Assignments:
Please note:
Since the last day to change courses or course sections without special
permission is during the later part of the week of 5/2, I will accept Ch.
1, Ch.2, and Ch.3 class law firm discussion entries until noon on
9/24 and interactive quizzes and chapter tests, for Chapters 1,2,
and 3, until midnight on 9/24.
Helpful Information:
Last semester our Bryan Bb expert forwarded me this link
The first question and answer on the link addresse the steps to take if
you are in the middle of an online test and you lose internet connection
and need to get back into the test- what TO DO and WHAT NOT TO
DO See:
http://www.troy.edu/bbhelp/documents/testcrashfaq.pdf
BEWARE that if you save a test to resume it later the time clock
(time limit) on the exam IS STILL RUNNING!!!!
.
Bold and underlined= day the class discussion (in your law firm) due
by NOON and the chapter test and unit test is due by MIDNIGHT.
