The game is located at : http://texaslre.org/jury_game/jury_game.html Jury Selection Game How it works! The students select either a criminal or civil case. They also select whether they want to be the defendant of the plaintiff. To select the jurors, they read the background information about the jurors. How it works! - Continued Based on the case and background information, they select a juror that will best favor their side of the case. When the student is done selecting, the website will score how they did in the selection process. Of course, a high score would mean they would probably win the case. The student will create his/her PowerPoint document to present to the other class. The student will be able to apply appropriate presentation skills to inform the rest of the class about his/her chosen topic. Directions for Students Read your section in the booklet provided to us from the Nebraska Bar Association. Record the main points on a sheet of paper or directly into your PowerPoint. Create a PowerPoint including the main information about that section that an individual would need to know. Look at the rubrics to see if you included all you needed for the information and creativity of your PowerPoint. Present your findings to the rest of the class. Some questions might be: Were the games fair? Were all instructions clear? What was needed to make it more informational? Leading up to how laws in society must be spelled out so everyone knows what is expected of them and what the consequences may be if you don’t abide by the rules. Court System Posters Students select or randomly draw a court system to research Provide a brief description about that court system List types of cases tried in that court Provide an example of an actual case tried in that courtroom Court System Posters— Continued Include three pictures depicting court system Present to the class the information contained on the poster Once all have gone, have students complete a scavenger hunt using the posters to find answers to questions Nebraska Judicial Branch Links for more specific information about the court--http://court.nol.org/ Making a Video/Podcast Students will use a concept from contract law to create a skit, video tape that skit, and create a movie. Usually no more than 3 or 4 in a group. Instructions, case scenarios, and grading rubric are included in the wiki.
