A Changing
Society
How Canada has changed
dramatically since the 1800’s.
Urbanization





Urbanization like Mr. Webster says is the change in a country or region
when its population migrates from rural to urban areas.
This started happening a lot in the late 1800’s, and was a big part of what
made Canada what it is today and now since then 64% of Canadians live in
Urban areas.
People moved to urban areas as the result of many things such as more job
opportunities, they were closer to more shops, closer to family, and it was
cheaper living.
Urbanization had helped many people in the 1800’s, for those who couldn’t
afford the farm life their only chance to earn money was to move to the city.
Although as this continued, more and more people moved from rural areas
to urban ones in search of many things. This was not very good because as
urbanization seemed to grow the amount of farmers decreased and less
people were growing food, and that’s where immigration came in.
As more people went to the city, less people were on the farms therefore
there was more room in rural areas for people from other countries to
immigrate to and this today is still happening today. More people are
immigrating to farmland and people are still moving to urban areas,
although if we didn’t have all these immigrants to make our food then we
probably wouldn’t have enough food made in Canada, and this is the result
of when Canadians started moving to urban areas.
Immigration

Immigration is to come into a country of which one is not a native for
permanent residence.




Immigration is what Canada is all about, Canada is a multi cultural
country, and this was very important in the 1800’s.
Due to Urbanization not enough farmers were making food for the
people, although many immigrants were continuously coming in
search of farm land, therefore making Canada bigger and helping
the people in the City.
These immigrants for a number of reasons, including looking for
land, looking for jobs, escaping war in their home country and many
other reasons.
Immigration still Is continuously growing in Canada, and now every
year about 260, 000 people come to Canada, therefore over all
immigration is probably one of the highest contributors to Canada’s
wealth.
Here is a graph showing the immigration in North
America between 1840 – 1860.
Stewardship




Stewardship has dramatically changed since the 1800’s, not just in
Canada but all over the world we have seen some horrifying
changes as how we now treat the world.
Actually Canada isn't as bad as other countries that are
progressively ruining the environment, by cutting down trees,
creating pollution, littering, and other mean things that are
destroying the world.
Since the Europeans came we have been gradually ruining the
spacious land the Aboriginals once called their own. They used to
watch that we didn’t over hunt, that we didn’t shop down the trees,
or spread diseases.
Canada has changed a lot since then and not just our environment
but our principles have changed too, we care a lot less about trees,
animals and saving our future generations.
“It's stewardship. It's a matter of just
being long-term responsible.”
~Andrew Howe.
Transportation

Wagons, carriages, bicycles, and horses. In the 1800’s the
transportation was pretty limited, and compared to now its hard to
believe how we have come in technology. This can be a good thing
for many reasons, but also causes some major problems that we
have in the world today.
Negatives.
All
the transportation today is made for
convince and making things easier for us, but
that may not always be good. By making things
easier we are also making things more
complicated, making us more lazy by making
machines do all the work, and creating pollution
and things that are bad for the environment that
we never had a problem with in the 1800’s.
Not only that but these Vehicles, Planes, and
other transportation cost a pretty penny, because
of how we make them so high tec.
Positives
Although, there are many problems concerning of
how we get around, there are also lots of good
things about having such high in advance technical
vehicles. Such as: getting the advantage to travel
anywhere in the world including in outer space, the
vehicles we use are quite comfortable and now
include many features that could even let us live in
our car, not only in motorized vehicles that we
have seen major changes but in other things we
use to transport like bicycles, skateboards,
scooters, etc. More advantages include that
people are now out with cars that save more gas
and are better for the environment.
Weapons & War
Back Then. 1800’s
Back in the !800’s weapons varied, from
being a Native and using spears and
hand made weapons to Europeans
using guns that were often very loud
and hard to use. When it came to war
and weapons Natives were more
peaceful usually only using their spears
to hunt, and often didn’t have wars until
the Europeans came along and started
trading guns with them.
Now. 2010
Just like every other thing, when it
comes to weapons and wars,
everything has been reinvented.
You will never see a spear or any
native tool being used to kill, we
constantly are turning to
modernized weapons that cause
more pain. This is the result of the
Europeans coming over hundreds
years ago, and now since then we
have learned to be meaner and
harsher, epically when it comes to
the wars that millions of people
encounter every day.
Future




The future of Canada was once going down in ruble, but as Canadians continually
show big changes in how we live I believe if we really try we are going in the right
direction towards making a better life for generations to come.
Although, it wont be like this with out everyone doing their part to save the
environment. Recycling, and being kind to the environment can help stop global
warming.
I believe not only will stewardship and how we treat the earth change, but also
continually how we live, including changes in the economy, technology, urbanization
etc. The way we live now is always changing, whether we know it or not, because we
are always revolutionizing our world to fit our needs. So just like the world has
changed majorly since Canada was born we will always see change huge change
through everything we do.
People are always arguing that humans are ruining our world, that we wont be able to
live on earth soon and that our great grandchildren won’t live in a nice earth if we
continue to start treating the world better. I agree and disagree, because although we
all aren't doing our part to be good stewards, we are still gradually moving towards
making the world a better place, and I know that humans are way to smart to ever let
this race die on earth and although there are plenty of arguments saying that we are
selfish beings ruining the earth, I don’t believe we will ever let anything happen to our
earth.

Aboriginals



Way before the Europeans came, the aboriginals lived a lot different
then how we now see them today. The Aboriginals had many
different cultures and ways of living that the Europeans had never
seen before. They wanted to live in peace and continue on with their
cultures, but this was unacceptable for the Europeans, and took
over, changing everything the Aboriginals knew and forcing them to
be like them.
Ever since then, the Aboriginals ways have evolved, and now their
cultures are rarely seen in the country that was once their own. This
was the result of people changing the aboriginals ways long before.
Aboriginals are struggling to keep their culture alive, although that’s
what happens to everyone with different religions and from different
countries. Canada is a very diverse country and in order to keep
everyone's culture alive we need to respect them, including
aboriginals, but this should have happened long ago when the
Europeans were first introduced to aboriginals.
The End.
Lots has changed over
the last 200 or so years,
and Canada has gone
through a lot, and as
we continue to look
forward we will also
see many changes to
