Choose and read a biography or autobiography on a scientist, writer, politician, head of state, religious leader, explorer or philosopher. 2. Take notes about the biography or autobiography. Be sure to take down the person’s name, two character traits of the person, and list quotations from the book that support the traits (give page numbers). 3. Be prepared to complete an assignment in class based on your notes. Therefore, you are required to complete a summer reading program before school begins in the fall. These assignments are meant to keep your brain sharp and strengthen your skills before you return to the classroom in the coming school year. Details Work counts toward your Quarter 1 Project Grade. In accordance with BCPS grading policy, projects account for 30% of your overall grade. The assignment is due to your Language Arts teacher the Tuesday after Labor Day. You will read and complete assignments for (3) books: 2 fiction books of your choice, and a nonfiction book of your choice. Choosing Books: Do NOT select a book you have already read Select titles that are on or above your reading level. Ask librarians, teachers, and parents for suggestions for books. Student Choice MYP Assignment Read a novel (that you haven’t read before) of your choice. After you read, complete the following assignments: 1. Choose 1 character to use for a character trait analysis. Be sure to pay attention to what the character says, his or her thoughts, actions, and how other characters interact with the character. 2. Determine which IB learner profile attribute the character BEST embodies. The attributes are: inquirer, knowledgeable, thinker, communicator, principled, openminded, caring, risk-taker, balanced and reflective. 3. Using a separate sheet of paper OR a computer, write a one page response explaining which IB Learner Profile Attribute the character embodies and why. Your paper should reference specific thoughts or actions of the character. Fiction Assignment 1. Choose and read one work of fiction listed below. If you have already read all of these books, see Ms. Zdravecky as soon as possible for alternatives. Identify the exposition, rising action, climax, and resolution. Evaluate the overall plot of the novel. Was it enjoyable? Did it entertain? Was it predictable?
