The label is based on a “ real estate “ principal. Every data element that could be required, has been given it’s own specific
location. The label MUST NOT be re formatted. The format of the label always remains constant.
There are three types of data elements included in the label :Mandatory
Conditional
Optional
Must always appear on the label
Must always appear on the label when a certain condition is met
Use of the Serial Shipping Container Code ( SSCC ) or Ai (00)
The label does include the use of the GS1-128 Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC). However the inclusion of the SSCC
by a supplier is Optional if they Scan Pack.
A “standardised“ Coles format for GS1-128 pallet and shipment labels has also been developed, and can be downloaded
from the Coles eCommerce website https://www.supplierportal.coles.com.au/csp/wps/portal/web/ElectronicTrading

: The delivery location as specified in the order. This can be a Distribution Centre or a store.

: Is conditional, based on the carton containing only 1 SKU.
Carrier
: Carrier is optional. Suppliers, or their Carriers may want to use it.
FOR: Business/Store
: The business & number of the store or Distribution Centre that the stock was ordered for.
Purchase Order number : Is Mandatory as passed in the Order.
Barcoded Data
TO: Ship To Location
: as an Application Identifier (Ai) 421 including the ISO country code. Australia is 036.
FOR: Store Number
: as an Application Identifier (Ai) 90. Must always be 4 digits. Zero fill if necessary
e.g. store 004 to be shown as 0004.

Where a supplier is not yet EDi capable or has not yet been asked to
provide Advance Shipment Notices, a number of Labeling options are
available.
1. Coles would prefer to receive the adjacent format, the Standardised
Coles Carton label without the Serial Shipping Container Code
(SSCC).
2. Smaller labels are allowable, provided that the bar code dimensions
are not compromised and when you are requested to supply Advance
Shipment Notices that they need to be accompanied by the
Standardised Coles carton Label with the SSCC included.

Label Positioning Specifications
The carton label must be placed on one of the longest sides of each carton.
The right hand end of the SSCC barcode must be no less than 19mm from the vertical edge of the carton.
The bottom of the SSCC barcode must be no less than 32mm from the base of the carton, in keeping with GS1
guidelines for carton label positioning.
Note, where the label height is greater than the carton height then the label positioning must be discussed with the
Electronic Trading Team.
