Name _____________________________________________ Date ________________ Block ________ Latin and Greek Prefixes, Roots, and Suffixes Review Activities DIRECTIONS: Read the information below and choose one of the four options to complete as your review activity. You will complete one for each of the Latin and Greek vocabulary units throughout the year. Imaginary Word Poster Make up an imaginary word containing at least two of the prefixes, roots, and suffixes from the current vocabulary sets we are studying. On the front of the poster, include your imaginary word, its definition, a descriptive sentence using your word, the word’s part of speech, and a color picture (hand-drawn or a computer-generated graphic) illustrating your word’s definition. On the back of your poster, write down all 20 prefixes, roots, and suffixes we are currently studying and their definitions. Flashcard Race Make 40 flashcards—20 will have the prefixes, roots, and suffixes written on them, and the other 20 will have the prefixes’, roots’, and suffixes’ definitions written on them. Mix them up and then correctly match them at least five times. The last time you sort them, time yourself with a stopwatch. Then glue the flashcards on a large piece of paper so they are matched correctly, and write down how long it took you to correctly sort them (write this underneath your name in the top-right corner of the piece of paper). Have a parent or guardian sign the large sheet of paper to verify that you did the sorts at least five times. Gestures/Movements Come up with some kind of gesture or movement that represents each of the prefixes, roots, and suffixes we are studying. For example, you could point to your head for “-anim-” which means “mind, will, spirit.” Film yourself making each of the gestures, explaining which prefix, root, or suffix it is for, and what the prefix, root, or suffix means. Email your video to Ms. Read when you are done (Jessica.Read@lcps.org). Vocabulary Story Write a story that includes words containing the prefixes, roots, and suffixes from the two current vocabulary sets we are studying. Your story must contain at least 20 vocabulary words, since there are 20 prefixes, roots, and suffixes you need to know. Make sure you use the words correctly, and make sure your story makes sense. Underline or highlight the vocabulary words where they appear in your story. *KEEP THIS SHEET IN THE VOCABULARY SECTION OF YOUR ENGLISH BINDER FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR.*
