Year 10 Spring Term 2012: Term overview Mathematics Term: Year: Teachers: Spring 10 Mr A. Afzal What will we be covering this term? Following topics will be covered from Book: Edexcel GCSE Mathematics Linear Course: 1st Half Term: Three-dimensional shapes (Chapter 22) Graphs (Chapter 23) Further Graphs and trial and improvement (Chapter 25) 2nd Half Term: Indices, Standard Form & Surds (Chapter 26) Further Factorising, Simplifying, Completing the square & Algebraic Proof(Chapter 28) How will my child be assessed this term? Homework is an integral part of an ongoing assessment of the above mentioned topics. Please refer to your child’s timetable for the days when homework is given. Students will be expected to contribute to class presentations as well. As the term progresses there will be class tests and the results will influence end of term reports. How can I help my child in this subject? Students will benefit from having a designated quiet space in which they can study. They would need scientific calculators and geometry sets for some of the mentioned topics. They should make a habit of practising questions at home. Please also encourage your child to always check their homework before handing it in as this will help them to self-correct any silly mistakes and is a vital element in their own self-assessment. Presentation is very important. All the diagrams including construction work as well as graphs should be done with pencil only. Students will have 4 biology assessments this term – 2 each half term. Assessment 1: Respiration Assessment 2: Cell division, Genes and alleles Assessment 3: Inheriting genes, Genetic disorders Assessment 4: End of term exams The marks of these four assessments would count towards their end of term report. How can I help my child in this subject? Parents are encouraged to check their child’s homework timetable and diary and make sure he/she does the work at home.
