Course description and purpose:
Honors Geometry is designed to introduce students to logic and methods of deductive reasoning. Algebra
is integrated throughout. This course is fast paced with heavy emphasis on logic and proof. Regular
geometry content is taught in a rigorous manner. A scientific calculator is required.
Enduring Understandings (EUs):
Essential Questions (EQs):
1. Make sense of problems and persevere in
solving them.
2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
3. Construct viable arguments and critique
the reasoning of others.
4. Model with mathematics.
5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
6. Attend to precision.
7. Look for and make use of structure.
8. Look for and express regularity in repeated
reasoning.
1. How can the undefined terms, defined
terms, and properties of transformations in
Geometry be useful in solving Geometric
problems?
2. How can the properties of polygons be
used to solve various Geometric problems?
3. What are some practical uses for the
properties and ideas discussed in Geometry
class?
4. How are people using this math in the real
world to improve the quality of our lives?
5. Why is it important to be able to explain the
steps that are required to reach a certain
conclusion?
6. How can Geometry concepts be related to
Algebraic concepts?
7. How can a proof be used to present a
logical and concise argument?
8. How is Trigonometry related to Geometry?
