Director Office of Adult Education South Carolina Department of Education Global Career Development Facilitator This full-semester course is designed to train adult educators who offer career assistance and guidance services in Career Development Facilitation, by focusing on career development theory and model; student/client diversity; assessment; intake; orientation; ethical and legal issues; labor market information and resources; employability skills; and navigating technology. Adult educators will receive training in 12 core competency areas. The Global Career Development (GCDF) training will be held at the College of Charleston July 15-19, 2013. Additional classes will be held on July 30-July 31 and two Fridays each month September – December at Richland One Adult Education Center to accommodate adult educators who will be traveling from all areas of the state. The GCDF training is sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Education’s Office of Adult Education. The training is 120 hour of both in class and out of class training sessions which leads to CDF certification, and is worth six graduate hours which can be used as recertification hours for teachers and adult education directors. This course is a required course for individuals serving as Transition Specialists who are not certified at the time of employment. Instruction should result in a better understanding of career guidance and local resources. Class participants will learn key strategies that will enable adult education students to connect with local community resources (SC Works, Armed Forces, Post-Secondary Institutions and other training programs) that will ensure student success. Upon successful completion, participants will be nationally certified by the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE) as a Global Career Development Facilitator (CDF). All sessions must be completed to receive credit. Classes begin July 15 at 8:30 a.m. and conclude on July 19 at 4 p.m. for the College of Charleston portion.
