VALLEY VIEW PUBLIC SCHOOL Valley Schools – Growing Together School Value: Acceptance Tuesday, 15th February, 2011 Term 1 Week 4 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE SCHOOL CALENDAR Thank you to the many families who came to meet-theteacher evening last Thursday. I trust that you found the information shared useful in supporting your child this year. The bread for the BBQ was donated to us by Wyoming Village Hot Bread. We appreciate their ongoing support of our school. Week 4 Wednesday 16th Feb As I said last we anticipate adding an additional class into our school for the year due to an increase in numbers. Our executive will make a decision as to what our revised class structure will look like so we can begin the long process of recommending students for new classes. As stated previously, you have an undertaking from me that no child will be moved without prior contact with parents. Mrs Morrow and I have been keeping track of any requests from parents and we will consider these in this process. Week 5 Monday 21st Feb Last Thursday Barry Harris, a long standing member of our school community passed away. The memorial service will be at Palmdale on Thursday at 11.30 am. Those of us who knew Barry appreciated the love he had for his family, his gentle nature and his skill in the art of conversation. Our thoughts are with his wife Mary and their family at this time. The P&C AGM is tomorrow night. Please come and support the parents who so willingly take on roles on the executive each year. Without them our school would be very much poorer and would not enjoy the rich resource base we have. Each Wednesday, commencing this week, we have an assembly. The pattern is Primary Assembly, Infants Assembly, Whole School Assembly. Scripture classes commence next week on 24th February. Your child will be expected to attend a scripture class in accordance with the information provided at the time of enrolment. These classes are taught by volunteers approved and trained by the various church groups. Miss Cambourn is the Assistant Principal responsible for scripture organisation this year. Our student pedestrian crossing on Chamberlain Road is supervised each morning and afternoon. The crossing supervisors are responsible for allowing children to cross the road safely. It is important that children and parents wait for instructions before crossing during the time the crossing is in operation. Sibling photo envelope orders must be collected from and returned directly to the front office. So that there is no confusion regarding photograph orders there will be no variation to this rule. MAROON FOR A DAY All of us have been shocked and moved by the devastation caused by the Queensland floods. Along with hundreds of other schools around NSW, we want to lend a hand. So, on Thursday 17 February, we’re going to be Maroon for a Day. Your child is encouraged to wear something maroon (burgundy or crimson) and make a gold coin donation. All the money collected will go towards assisting Queensland public schools affected by the floods. The floods damaged more than 90 Queensland public schools, six TAFE institutes and more than 80 government child care centres have also been affected. We hope you’ll join us in this worthwhile effort. Thank you 2011 SWIMMING CARNIVAL Our carnival was held on Monday 7th February at Gosford Pool. Due to the recent changes by the Education Dept. and council, only students who were interested and capable of swimming in an approved style in the 50m events participated. This year about 120 students attended the carnival. Again these keen students participated with enthusiasm and were very well behaved. The pool managements were full of compliments and were most impressed with the behaviour and efforts of the Valley View students. An enormous thank you must go to all the wonderful parents who assisted as officials and our staff that helped on the day. Without your involvement and cooperation this carnival would not have run as smoothly as it did. The placings were based on the 4 fastest times overall from all of the heats for each event. Certificates were awarded to those students who cam 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in each event and will be presented at Wednesday’s Primary Assembly. Those students who swam qualifying times for the Brisbane Waters P.S.S.Z District Carnival will be notified shortly. It is to be held on Monday 7th March at the Peninsula Leisure Centre, Woy Woy. Thank you again to all for a wonderful carnival. Phil Toomey Carnival organiser.
