Features of the 2014 Conference
Doctoral Consortium
This year, the Midwest Academy of Management will be hosting a pre-conference doctoral consortium on
Thursday, October 2. The consortium is open to graduate students in any phase of their studies, though may
be most useful to students in the latter stages of their program. The consortium will consist of panel
discussions and presentations with early career and tenured faculty on a range of relevant topics, including
completing the dissertation and navigating the job search process. Participants will have the opportunity to
meet other graduate students, and to network with faculty from a wide range of universities. Registration
required.
To register, go to midwestacademyofmanagement.org Register as early as possible to secure your
spot. Space is limited for this highly interactive event. Fee: $35 (includes lunch).
Symposium and Panel Discussions
The Midwest Academy of Management invites thought provoking symposium and panel discussion ideas that
fit either the conference theme or any of the submission track areas. We especially encourage proposals that
cross disciplines and panels that include multiple institutions. Submissions of proposals should align with a
recognized track and be submitted through the submission system. If your proposal crosses two or three
tracks –please submit and copy each of the track chairs that pertain to your topic. All panelists must register for
the conference. See format for submitting symposia and panels at midwestacademyofmanagement.org and
click on Conference - How to Submit a Paper.

Lightning Rounds
These sessions offer the opportunity to describe a successful, practical solution to a teaching and/or learning
problem or as a forum to incubate an idea or research project with feedback from conference participants. For
these 15-minute sessions, presenters should plan for 5 minutes of presentation plus 10 minutes for discussion
and questions. Presenters will distill and present the topic in 5 minutes or less with a maximum of 10 slides
that advance automatically every 30 seconds; a variation of Pecha Kucha (pechakucha.org) a fast-paced,
concise style of presentation. A template PowerPoint file with automatically advancing slides will be available
for accepted presenters. Not peer reviewed.
Awards and Recognition
Based on reviewer recommendations, one paper submitted by a graduate student (single authored paper or
jointly with other graduate students) will be selected for the Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Award. A
similar process will be used to select the Outstanding Paper submitted by faculty or professional
members, based on the paper's conceptual and methodological quality and overall contribution to the field. An
Outstanding Paper based on Qualitative Research and overall contribution to the field will also be
recognized. Finally, an award will be given for the Outstanding Reviewers of the conference.
Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies
In conjunction with an arrangement with the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies (JLOS), the
Midwest Academy of Management has editorial responsibility for the Journal’s Summer Issue. Submission
guidelines for the issue will be posted on the Midwest Academy of Management website:
http://midwestacademyofmanagement.org/jlos.php . Please consider submitting a manuscript, including papers
you submit to the conference, and share this opportunity with your colleagues. The quality of the issue is
dependent on good submissions! Any questions, please contact the Associate Editor, Megan Gerhardt, (513)
529-4235 or email at mgerharmm@muohio.edu.
