It's Time to Register Children Born
in 2012 for Kindergarten
We inspire success, confidence and
hope in each student…and it all starts
in kindergarten! If your child was born
in 2012, he or she can start
kindergarten in September 2016. You
can register your child at any time
during regular school hours—just visit
the school he/she will be attending to
register.
Peel schools will also hold a
Kindergarten Registration Week with
special registration activities during
Feb. 1 to 4, 2016. Visit Lorenville P.S.
from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 1, 2, 3
and 4 and from 5 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 4.
Board Policy for Extreme Temperatures
For your information, the board policy
for outdoor play on very cold days is as
follows:
1. Reduce amount of time children
(grade 8 and under) spend outdoors
when the temperature is –20 degrees
Celsius or colder, with or without the
wind chill.
2. Keep children indoors when the temperature is -25
degrees Celsius or colder, with or without a wind chill. As
a school, we make decisions about outdoor play and follow
this policy strictly.
Please be aware that if children are outside playing in cold
temperatures, we have checked the weather before
sending them outside
January has started out to be an extremely cold month and
students need to come prepared for the weather. Please
ensure that children are wearing all of their warm winter
clothing in order to stay protected from the cold. Warm
hats, mitts, and scarves are essential right now as skin can
freeze in minutes when we are experiencing frigid
temperatures.
L’IL LYNX AT THE LIBRARY
L'il Lynx storytime is a program for 2 and 3 year olds
who will be future Lorenville students. Children will
have the opportunity to interact with some student
helpers and participate in a storytime, sing some
songs and do a craft. L'il Lynxes will also have the
opportunity to sign out a library book.
L'il Lynx storytime is held once a month on the last
Wednesday of the month from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Our next L'il Lynx meeting will be on Wednesday,
January 27th. If you would like to join our L'il Lynx
program, please contact Mrs. Walker at the school to
let her know your child's name and age. If you have
any neighbours that would be interested in the
program, please let them know as well. We look
forward to seeing you in the library!

Helping your teen plan for grade 9 course selections for 2016-17
This month, current grade 8 students will select their courses for grade 9. Before they
do, we want to ensure that they have the opportunity to consult with their teachers,
guidance counsellor, if applicable, and their parents. Please note that the information
provided below applies to all Peel Secondary Schools and would therefore apply if your
child is currently in our ELC and going to Heart Lake Secondary School or their home
high school, or the new secondary school opening Sept. 2016 (currently referred to as
Credit Valley Secondary School).
As our partners, families are encouraged to help prepare their teens for course
selection. We encourage parents to become familiar with the process by creating a
myBlueprint account. Instructions for this was sent home with your child’s Progress
Report. Additionally, parents/guardians and students can review Chart Your Course, the
Peel District School Board’s common course calendar
(http://www.peelschools.org/students/commoncoursecalendar/201617/Pages/default.aspx). This guide will help you understand the course selection
process and provide information on the courses and programs offered in Peel secondary
schools.
You can also visit www.myBlueprint.ca/peel, an online planning tool that includes
the following:
 high school planner for course selection
 goal-setting
 career spectrum for finding your learning style
 occupation planner for exploring careers
 post-secondary planner for opportunities after high school
The grade 9 course selection process will be open from Jan. 4 to Jan. 22, 2016.
Students will choose courses at school with the support of their classroom teacher and
guidance counsellor.
Thank you for your support during this exciting time!
