COURSE SYLLABUS Psychology, 2015-2016 School Year Teacher: Ms. Iglesia Email: miglesia@dadeschools.net Room: 441 Course Description: You are participating in Psychology, a semester course that is worth ½ credit. This course will cover many sub-fields of Psychology including the history of psychology, research methods, development, the brain and nervous system, sensation and perception, learning, memory, states of consciousness, motivation, emotion, personality, testing, stress, psychological disorders, medical issues, treatments, and social psychology. Textbook: Understanding Psychology, New York: McGraw Hill, 2014. *This is found on your student portal schedule. Course Requirements You are given a course calendar and you should check it weekly to see what chapters are being covered. If you are absent, you should check the calendar so that you are prepared for what you need to make up. # 1 Grab your textbook as you walk in! All students will return neatly to the bookshelves 5 minutes prior to the bell ringing. Seated and supplies ready at desk when bell rings. You must be ready to work. This will be graded frequently. Notebook: You must have a 3-ring binder with 2 dividers as this will be checked frequently for a grade. Vocabulary/Note taking: You are required to gather vocabulary for every chapter and take notes on the lectures and videos. Quizzes: Quizzes will be based on reading assignments. Some will be open notes and you will need your notes in order to take the quiz. If you do not have your notes for an open notes quiz, you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE IT. Exams: Unit exams will cover several chapters at a time so you must keep your notes and vocabulary organized to ensure success on these exams. Written Assignments: You will be given “quick writes” in which you will give reactions to videos and/or lectures in class. Projects: You will be assigned various projects throughout the school year to enhance your knowledge of the course content. Be sure to have construction paper, glue, scissors, computer paper, access to a computer, printer, and the Internet. Course conduct: This course covers many MATURE SUBJECT MATTERS. Please act accordingly. Disrespectful, disruptive, or distracting behavior will not be tolerated.
