CHOOSE ONE FROM EACH SECTION
*Note: sections are labeled pairs or individual. Please work accordingly.
Vocabulary (pairs)
1. Choose 15 words from the play that you do not know, look up their definitions and create
flash cards. Learn them.
2. Create a quiz on 15 words from the play. Be sure to include a key.
3. Create a song or poem that correctly incorporates a total of 10 vocabulary words from the
play. Their definitions should be clear from context.
Comprehension (individual)
1. Create a one page summary of Macbeth. Be sure to use transitional words and
phrases.
2. Complete a Cause and Effect Organizer. On a plain sheet of paper, draw three columns
and label them as follows: Cause of, Event, and Effect of. Record 10 events with
respective causes and effects.
3. Create a timeline. Include a minimum of 15 events.
Elements (individual)
1. Choose one act and mark 7 literary elements in the margins on a photocopy of the text.
Explain.
2. Create a poster incorporating 7 literary elements that relate to the play. Be sure each
element is listed and you understand what they are and how they work in the play.
Analysis (pairs)
1. Create a comic strip for one of the acts in Macbeth. Use at least 5 underlined
vocabulary words. Show foreshadowing or irony; explain it briefly
at the end.
2. Create a board game that focuses on the plot, at least 5 elements, and vocabulary of
Macbeth. Include clear directions for how to play, as well as everything needed to do so.
3. Write a two-page scene based on a section of Macbeth, but set somewhere else, like
an urban neighborhood or a mental ward. Be true to the plot, but make sure the characters fit
the setting. Include at least 5 underlined vocabulary words, and show foreshadowing
or irony.
4. Choose 10 important quotes and in paragraph form identify:

Choose one of the major themes and explore how the theme is portrayed using quotes from the
test. You may write an essay, make a poster, make a power point, make a movie, or write song.

Write a 2 – 3 page essay comparing and contrasting:
1. Find a modern song, poem, or short story that has elements in common with Macbeth
(i.e. tragedy, tragic hero, themes, plot, mood, literary elements, etc.)
2. Compare and contrast the use of metaphor in Macbeth and one of Shakespeare’s sonnets.
3. Read Edgar Allen Poe’s short story “The Telltale Heart”.
Evaluation (individual)
Write a 3 to 5 page essay on one of the question below. Find two current, reliable sources on our
chosen topic, and create a bibliography for each one. Proofread, edit and type your final draft.
Turn in the following final (typed) draft with citations.
1. Is it realistic for guilt to manifest itself in the form of hallucinations?
2. Is the lust for power environmental or innate?
3. What is the curse of Macbeth and do you believe in it?
4. Who is the true villain in Macbeth?
5. Is Macbeth a tragic hero?
