worked very hard
NURSERY
NURSERY RHYMES
This half term the Nursery children have been learning about
Homes and Houses linked to fairy tales
We have looked at Jack and the
Beanstalk and talked about the
giant’s castle and the children
have been writing about their
favourite part of the story. The
children have also sequenced
pictures of the life cycle of a
bean
During our Little Red Riding Hood
week we looked at the route that
she went on through the forest to
Grandma’s house and then the
children worked in groups to make
their own maps showing the route
we went from Nursery to Key
Stage 2 playground. The children
remembered lots of things we saw
on the way. The children also
listened carefully to the story
Our week on the Three Little Pigs was very exciting! The children
used masks and props to retell the story and also used their
mark making skills to write about the story
We continue to follow activities of Phase 1 of Letters and
Sounds on a daily basis. The children also have a shared
reading session every other week
A gentle reminder to please name your child’s clothing
and shoes so there will be no confusion after PE.
Thank you.
RECEPTION
This half term our topic has been
‘Fairy Tales’. The children have
listened to numerous traditional tales
and have participated in lots of
speaking and listening activities
through the retelling of these stories
using puppets and role play.
Children have engaged in a wealth
of new learning experiences that
included cooking and tasting
porridge, simple map work,
exploring different building materials,
carrying out experiments to find out
which materials were waterproof and
planted beans – will there be a giant
at the top of ours?
At the end of term, children learned about the Christian
celebrations and traditions for Easter. Fun activities for
Easter were enjoyed by everyone
“I would like to thank Parents for their continued support in
sharing the books with their child and returning them daily,
also for completing the home activities” – Mrs Gilbert
Multicultural Week
During the school
multicultural week Reception
children participated in
activities to learn about
France. The children built
famous landmarks using
construction toys, made
flags and enjoyed tasting
some French food
KEY STAGE 1 SATs MEETING
Thank you to those parents who attended the SATs meeting.
This was an opportunity for parents to ask questions about the
forthcoming SATs week and discuss any worries which they may
have. The structure of the week was discussed and past papers
were used as examples to demonstrate the organisation of the
reading, writing and numeracy assessments.
If there are any further questions please feel free to ask, we have an
open door policy
YEAR 1
Literacy
This half term the children have continued
to be engaged in their learning. The
children in Year 1 have been working very
hard in Literacy and have written some
superb fact files about Japan. The
children’s work will be displayed at ‘Open
Evening’. We have also been learning
about Traditional Tales. The children have
written about their favourite story and had
the opportunity to do some drama
During ‘World Book Day’ the children got the opportunity to dress up
as a character from a book. We all had lots of fun during the day!
Numeracy
In Numeracy we have been learning to understand the value of digits
in a two digit number. For our curricular target the children in Year 1
have been learning to identify odd and even numbers. We learnt a little
rhyme to help us remember! We have also been learning to count
forwards and backwards in twos, fives and tens.
Art
Mrs Taylor, Chair of Governors, has
been helping us with our Art project
this term, which focuses on clay.
The whole of Year 1 have listened
carefully and worked hard to
produce a clay egg to be very proud
of!
Multi-cultural week
During Multi-cultural week, Year 1 completed lots of different activities to
help them find out about Japan. The children answered the register in
Japanese. Here are some simple phrases:
Good morning = ohayou gozaimasu
Good afternoon = konichiwa
Good evening = konbanwa
The children found out how to count to ten in Japanese. We listened to a
rap and made up actions to help us learn to count to ten.
The children really enjoyed
finding out about Origami and
all got to make an animal by
folding paper. They created
ducks, fish, cats and dogs.
YEAR 2
In Literacy this term year 2 have been learning about
explanation texts. We have looked at the features
within an explanation text.
The children learned about that an explanation text
usually contains a contents page, index, glossary and
diagrams.
Linked in with our
multicultural week, the
children also wrote
letters to the footprints
orphanage in Kenya.
Year two learned how
to compose a letter
correctly. They learned
how to start a letter and
how to sign off at the
end of a letter.
Within Numeracy this term the
children have been using number
lines to add and subtract.
We also looked at money and the
different coins that we can use.
Year 2 also learned how to convert
pound to pence. As well as this the
children recapped on their data
handling skills.
As a class we learnt about bar
charts, tallies and pictograms.
Year 2 are avid historians and this term we learned all about
the “lady with the lamp”, Florence nightingale. We
researched the Scutari hospital and learnt about the Crimean
war. The children learned about hospital conditions in the
1850’s compared to hospital conditions in the present day.
The children have been working hard on learning their phase 5
phonemes. This has been supported by their daily handwriting and daily
spelling practice. The class have really made a big improvement within
their handwriting especially.
Year 2 have also continued their excellent work in P.E and Music with
Mr Attwood and Mr Mansfield respectively.
In art the children used paints to
create a Kenyan horizon. They then
tore paper and card to create a
silhouette of the Kenyan mountains
and trees in the background.
The children have also been working on addition and
subtraction word problems and have done very well in
identifying the important information needed before selecting
the appropriate operation.
They have progressed their addition skills further by using
the column method to complete addition using two 3 digit
numbers. I have been extremely pleased with the children’s
approach to this and their understanding of using the correct
layout and their ability to carry numbers into the next column.
Year 2 loved learning about different
painting techniques and especially
liked using the sponges to create
their Kenyan horizons.
For Multicultural week the children
also drew and coloured the Kenyan
flag. They also
Learned the song Jambo in Swahili.
YEAR 3
Literacy
The children have been
exploring performance poems
and were confident in identifying
the features of them. They
enjoyed listening to various
sounds in the outdoors, which
they used to adapt the ‘The
Sound Collector’ poem.
In Science the children have
been learning about plants. They
have identified the main parts of
a plant and looked into the
features of these in detail. They
have recognised the
requirements needed for a plant
to grow healthily and will carry
out an investigation into water
transportation.
The children will also be
focussing on the life cycle of a
plant as well as exploring seed
dispersal
YEAR 4
They had a great time using their imaginations to write a poem
following the structure of ‘The Magic Box’ by Kit Wright. I was
impressed with the variety of ideas the children had and the
expression they used to perform them.
We will be focussing
on non- chronological
reports for the rest of
the term with a focus
on J.K Rowling’s Harry
Potter books.
Numeracy
This half term the children have been using their understanding
of number facts to solve addition and subtraction problems.
They have been using 3 digit numbers to add and subtract
multiples of 10 and 100.
CURRICULUM ITEMS
This term the children have been
spelling of words learned in
previous years and continuing with
personal weekly spelling, following
the look, cover strategy. We have
also been studying various
elements of different genres of
writing.
We began with narrative stories
which we based on familiar stories
such as the Horrid Henry books.
The children wrote their own Horrid
Henry style story!
We then progressed onto looking at recount genres of
writing, which included studying newspaper and magazine
writing styles.
The children have studied a wide variety of different texts to
ensure they understood the style and structure of each
genre studied.
There has also been a continual focus to ensure the
children improve basic grammar, sentence structure and
punctuation.
Numeracy
Topics we have covered are
place value and the ordering of
decimals, rounding numbers to
the nearest ten or hundred,
reading numbers from scales,
properties of numbers and
number sequences.
They have also learned about
mental calculation strategies,
pencil and paper procedures,
using money, making
decisions and checking
results, problems involving
measuring, shape and space,
fractions, problems involving
time and data handling.
The children have also been
encouraged to continue to
learn and practice all of their
times tables, from 2 - 12.
Art
In Art this term, we have been studying Van Gogh. This involved
exploring how his use of colour is unique to his work.
The children, with the support of Mrs Taylor, our Chair of
Governors, have created a wonderful display of pictures based on
Van Gogh’s Starry Night, A huge thank you to Mrs Taylor for
helping the children create such masterpieces!
Science
The first topic we covered
this term was ‘Teeth and the
Digestive System’.
Mr Yates’s close friend, Mr
Jake Edwards, works in
dental technology and he
agreed to come into school
and share his expertise with
the class.
This involved practical
activities designed to inform
the children about the
different roles each type of
tooth plays.
The second topic Year 4 learned about was ‘Electricity’.
During this topic, the children learned about how electricity is
generated and the many different uses we have for it.
This half-term has seen Year 4 begin
their swimming unit at the
Meadowside Leisure Centre.
All 36 children have been grouped by
the instructors and now will be able to
have a prolonged period of coaching
with the aim of improving their skill,
confidence and enjoyment in the
water.
In the first few weeks the children have experienced a variety
of activities ranging from practising their backstroke in the
large pool, through to controlling their body position in the
water. These sessions will continue to take place each week
on Wednesday mornings, therefore could I please ask all
children and parents to try to remember to bring all the
necessary equipment needed to school
May I please remind you to supply
your child with the correct swimming
kit which is a swimming hat and
swimming costume or trunks.
Unfortunately, loose swimming shorts
aren’t permitted as they restrict
children when they are first learning to
swim. Thank you for your support
Our other focus within P.E. is on dance whilst in R.E.
Within DT the children have researched the various forms of a
lighthouse and how to create a model lighthouse. They have
all attempted to make their very own model.
YEAR 5
English
In English this half term, we have been learning about narrative
poetry. We found out that narrative poems tell a story, and we read
a range of poems, including ‘The Ballad of Charlotte Dymond’ by
Charles Causely, ‘Miller’s End’ by Charles Causley, ‘The Man in
the Moon Stayed Up Too Late’ by J. R. R. Tolkien and ‘Chocolate
Cake’ by Michael Rosen.
History
In history, we have continued
to learn about the Victorians.
We have looked at a range of
sources to help us develop
our understanding of this
period in history. We have
discussed the reliability of
different sources.
We all participated in a class performance of ‘The Ballad of
Charlotte Dymond’, and we developed our spoken language skills
by discussing our thoughts and opinions of the poems with others.
In particular, we focused on
different images of Queen
Victoria and what we can
learn from these
More recently, we
have begun a unit
on reports and
journalistic writing
in which we have
studied ‘Tuesday’
by David Wiesner.
We have written
eyewitness
accounts and
discussed the
different points of
view in the story.
RE
In RE this half term, we
have been learning about
suffering and hardship. We
have learnt about how
hardship and suffering are
included in the Easter
story.
Maths
In maths this half term, we have been learning to find fractions of
quantities and equivalent fractions. We have also learnt about fraction and
decimal equivalents. We have developed our understanding of the written
method for short division, as well as improving our multiplication skills. Our
class target is to find the area and perimeter of shapes, including
compound shapes
We have also learnt about
how these themes are
present in the origins of
Buddhism. We learnt about
Siddatha Gautama, an Indian
prince, who went on to
become the Buddha.
Multicultural Week
For multicultural week, Year 5 have been learning
about Italy. In Arts Week, we researched Venetian
masks and then created some masks of our own in the
same style.
During multicultural week, we
learnt about Pompeii and
mosaics, and we created some
mosaics of our own.
Science
In science, we have been learning about the properties of different
materials. We have learnt about reversible and irreversible changes, and
we have also conducted an experiment into the absorbency of different
materials
Design and Technology
Out D&T topic this half term is pop-up
books. We have looked at a range of popup books and we have studied the
different mechanisms used. We have
recreated some of these mechanisms.
We will now move on to designing pop-up
books of our own
We also made pizza, completely
from scratch, including the
dough. This involved very careful
measuring and cooperation with
others to ensure that the dough
was of the correct consistency!
Children then selected their own
toppings and, when the pizzas
were cooked, they were able to
taste their creations! We then
created menus based on our
pizza creations, including giving
our pizzas names!
World Book Day
By Ella R. and Mille S. in Year 5
On Thursday 5th March, Shobnall Primary School pupils celebrated World Book Day! The teachers and characters dressed up as their
favourite book characters. Just before lunch, the teachers went in to other classes to read books or short stories.
At lunchtime, we had a themed lunch: Gruffalo Grill (don’t worry, it’s only a burger!); Madhatter pizza and a Harry Potter hotdog.
Miss Alexander also led a World Book Day themed assembly. She shared some of her favourite books, and read us a book by Anthony
Browne called ‘Through the Magic Mirror’. Afterwards, we discussed the importance of reading and we did little descriptions of why you
should read particular books.
We wrote this World Book Day acrostic poem, all about the importance of reading:
World Book Day is once a year, but it’s important to read every day.
Over all the world, there are books for everyone.
Reading can help you in every subject.
Learn a lot or laugh out loud.
Demon Dentist by David Walliams, to name just one.
Because some people like excitement, it’s great to try short stories.
Of all the books in the worlds, there are many different genres you might like.
Opinions from other people may help you to find the perfect book for you.
Kick-start your love of books by visiting the school library.
Don’t just choose the book because of the cover.
Action stories may be for you, or maybe comics!
You should try and find a book and take these tips!
YEAR 6
Literacy
This term in Literacy we’ve been learning about
autobiographical writing and persuasive writing. We’ve been
using the IPads to look at various websites to see what
format persuasive writers use. We eventually designed and
created out ‘Ultimate’ hotel which included all of the skills we
have been learning about.
In our autobiography writing we
were asked to collect
information about our lives so
far. We did this by interviewing
our parents and some of us
discovered some fascinating
facts about ourselves and our
families. It was certainly an
entertaining topic to focus on.
Numeracy
This term in Numeracy we have been learning about angles and
co-ordinates. We’ve been learning about the different types of
angles, including; Acute, Right, Obtuse and Reflex angles. We
have developed our skills in using a protractor and solving past
SATs style questions to develop these skills.
We spent a lot of time studying co-ordinates and learning about
co-ordinates in four quadrants which includes negative numbers.
The work became even more challenging when we were required
to solve co-ordinate questions without any of the axis labelled
and therefore could only use certain clues provided.
History
This term in History we’re learning
about Ancient Greece. We have
been learning about the City States,
democracy and Greeks Gods and
Goddesses. We have learnt about
the different City States and what
they were famous for, such as
Sparta being famous for its strength
in creating powerful soldiers.
We had the opportunity of using the
ipads to research the different
Greek Gods and find out the
reasons for their importance and
why they were worshipped.
Toby Jugs
In this term we’ve been making
Toby Jugs. Mrs Taylor and Mrs
Tinning worked with the class and
we all thoroughly enjoyed this
topic.
This is how we made these
extraordinary Toby Jugs:
1:
2:
3:

SATS
The Children in Year 6 are also all working extremely hard in
preparation for their SATs in May. They are currently
undertaking a number of focussed activities and past test
papers to enable them to achieve their full potential within the
tests.
The class thoroughly enjoyed their insight into Brazil during
Multicultural Week and you will be able to see their hard work
at the School Open Evening on 22nd April 2015.
We will remain focused on SATs work after the Easter Break
and ensure that all the Year 6 children achieve their full
potential.
Internet Safety
This term we have been studying safety on the internet. We’ve learnt not to put any confidential information onto the internet and we
have learnt about Cyber-Bullying and the Smart rules, (Safe, Meet, Accepting, Reliable, Tell). We have also completed posters showing
key information about Smart rules and Cyber-Bullying.
KS1 AND KS2 SAT’S MEETING
Thank you to those parents who attended the SATs meetings
held on 31st March and 1st April for KS1 and KS2.
This was an opportunity for parents to ask questions about
the forthcoming SATs week and discuss any worries which
they may have.
The structure of the week was discussed and past papers
were used as examples to demonstrate the organisation of
the reading, writing and numeracy assessments.
If there are any further questions please feel free to ask, we
have an open door policy.
CLUBS & SCHOOL NEWS
Science Club
Science club has been very well attended by children from
Years 5 and 6. We have learnt about circuits and we made
steady hand games. This involved creating a circuit that
included a piece of twisted wire, a metal hook, crocodile
clips, batteries and a buzzer.
In the steady hand game, children needed to guided their
metal hook around the twisted wire. If the hook touched the
metal wire, the buzzer would go off. We then went on to
making zoetropes, which use a spinning motion to create the
illusion of movement. These are similar to an early form of
animation.
Environmental Art Club
Children from years 1 and 2 have joined
Mrs Farrington and Miss Agent for a
creative club this half term with an
environmental twist. Children have been
using natural resources to produce art
work including, stone paperweights,
wood cookie name necklaces, twigs to
weave wool around and have tried out a
touch of origami to make some paper
leaves.
Children have worked
really hard on each
project and gained
many new skills along
the way. Well done to
you all!
Skipping Club
Year 3 and Year 4 children have enjoyed the skipping club
on a Tuesday after school. The children have had the
opportunity to use digital skipping ropes, which has
counted how many skips each child has completed. These
skipping ropes brought out the children’s competitive
spirit.
Girls Football
The girl’s football began on Tuesday 3rd February and Mr Gordon and
Mr Roberts were very impressed with the standard of football being
shown.
The sessions ran every Tuesday after school for four weeks. The girls
were working on their dribbling, passing and shooting.
The first girls tournament took place at St Georges on 1st April and the
girls were fantastic. They won four of their matches in this friendly
tournament and drew 2 finishing top of their group. – This stands us in
good stead for our next tournament in June where there may be some
silverware on offer and based on this performance, our girls should be
in with a great chance!
Speed Stacks and Board
Games Club
A number of children form
Years 3 and 4 have been
taking part in ‘Speed Stacks
and Board Games’ Club. At
the club, the children had
the opportunity to practice
their skills with using Speed
Stacks and thoroughly
enjoyed competing against
each other. The children
were extremely enthusiastic
and keen to develop their
skills.
Well done to all children
who attended!
Badminton Club
This is a popular club with our
youngsters. We introduce basic
techniques through fun games and
activities giving the pupils the chance to
try the sport and challenge each other
competitively. The children are always
enthusiastic so apologies must be sent
to parents as the children often leave
this club later than they should, as time
seems to fly by.
NETBALL - Dove Valley League Champions!
The school netball team once again proudly claimed the Dove Valley Netball shield on Thursday 5th March 2015 as the children
clinched the title in emphatic fashion. The team had qualified for this stage of the competition unbeaten all the way back in the
Autumn term and had the opportunity of showcasing their skills and enthusiasm once again against the best teams within the Dove
Valley.
The tournament was held at the De Ferrer’s Academy and whilst the evening turned cold and blustery, it didn’t affect the
performance of the children. The first game was against All Saints, Alrewas and the team began, in what would turn out to be, in slow
fashion, with a 3 – 0 victory. It was just the start needed and gave the children that extra bit of confidence. Shobnall then beat
Richard Crosse, Kings Bromley 6 – 0 and Rykneld 4 – 0. The final two games had the potential to be the most difficult based on the
experience from the previous tournaments and the children performed brilliantly against Thomas Russell, Barton, winning 5 – 2
before playing against John of Rolleston school. This game was going to decide the eventual winner but the children took to this
game like any other, finishing the tournament with a stunning 6 – 0 victory!
Georgia Edge, Phoebe Chilton, Lucas Yeomans, Isabel Dixon, Reiss Martin, Teal Staple and Millie Smallwood mad up the victorious
team and were a credit to the school. They were always the first to shake hands with their opponents and never gloated once, even
in victory they were cool and composed. It was a fabulous evening and a huge thanks once again to our parents who turned up and
supported. Well done everyone!
Dove Valley League
Winners
Dove Valley Netball Knockout Cup
On Saturday 28th March, the school team looked to add another medal and trophy to their achievements so far this year and they
certainly began in great fashion.
The school entered two teams for this event and it was a fabulous opportunity for some of the children to represent the school in such a
tournament.
The Blue team included a number of year four and five pupils and played brilliantly in their group matches. Being pitched against
schools such as John of Rolleston, William Shrewsbury and Rykneld was always going to be a tough challenge but to finish third in the
group with one win and two losses, we were all extremely proud. In fact, the team were winning 2 – 0 at half time against John of
Rolleston but unfortunately we lost in the second half as two of our stronger players needed to be rotated off at half time.
The Red team, who are the current league champions, began strongly and won each group game, defeating Richard Crosse,
Rangemore and William Shrewsbury B. They were then required to play William Shrewsbury A team in the semi-final and won 5-0.
The final saw Shobnall play John of Rolleston school and unfortunately the double was just out of our grasp. After having 12 shots,
compared to Rolleston’s zero, in normal time, it appeared the pressure was beginning to tell. Extra time was then required and still we
failed to make our shots count, even though we had five more chances to score, John of Rolleston finally had two shots and one went
in! That is the nature of the game. However, it was a truly fitting final and of course, as always, we were delighted at the conduct and
sporting endeavours of our children once again. We are all extremely proud of their achievements this year and a huge thank you to all
our parents who braved the wet and windy conditions. Well Done Shobnall on winning Gold and Silver medals this year!
Blue Team: J. Moore, S. Matthews, A. Akhtar, D. Riddell, E. Riddell, P. Barker, J. To

Football match vs William Shrewsbury – 27th February 2015
After school on Friday evening, 8 children from Shobnall headed over
to Stretton to face William Shrewsbury in a Dove Valley league fixture.
The game was extreme close with both teams gaining sight of the
opposition goal in the early exchanges. However, it was William
Shrewsbury who made the break through with a fine strike from their
striker. 1-0 at half-time. Shobnall made a few substitutions with the
hope that fresh legs would trigger a comeback. Chances came and
went for the SPS team but sadly nobody could get on the end of some
wonderful crosses by the wingmen.
The game ended 1-0 to William Shrewsbury. However, the Shobnall 8
can walk away with their heads held high after the opposing manager
commented on what a polite and talented group of youngsters they
were. Well done ladies and gents. Mr Yates
Football away vs. Richard Crosse - 4th March 2015
Shobnall travelled to Richard Crosse for the penultimate game of the
season. After quiet a drive (and some late arrivals!!) the game began
and Shobnall soon took control of the play. On a lovely surface the
SPS 7 were able to pass the ball around nicely to create several early
chances. The deadlock was broken 10 minutes in through a calm
finish by McKenzie after some good work by our Keeper come Striker,
Daniel! Daniel ‘Schmeichel’ Bond then popped up with a goal of his
own with a thunderous volley inside the box. 0-2 to Shobnall at half
time. With constant substitutions to bring fresh legs to all positions,
Shobnall continued to create chances and it wasn’t long before Cole
pounced upon a mistake in the opposition defence to slot in a 3rd goal
for the men (and lady) in red. Richard Crosse pulled one back through
a well worked breakaway but this only served to galvanise the away
team into notching 2 more goals before the game was done. Firstly, a
rocket of a shot by Bruce from outside the away and then a real
poachers finish from skipper Millie. A resounding 1-5 away win with 5
different scorers, a fabulous result! Mr Yates
Hockey
Children have been attending Shobnall Leisure Complex on Wednesday afternoons to work on hockey skills in readiness for the
tournaments, held at the end of March 2015. They have been practising passing and dribbling skills, and team skills. It is important that
the children use the pitch at Shobnall to get them used to the full size sports space they will be using at the tournaments, also as the
surface of the pitch is very different to the school playground.
We have also been doing a lunch time hockey session for children playing in the tournament that cannot attend on Wednesday
evenings. This has proved very popular with the children and we hope to carry on with this club after Easter
Year 3 and 4 children have been training hard for their tournament which took place on the 13th March at Shobnall Leisure Complex.
At the tournament both teams competed in their groups against four other schools. Both teams played very well with the A team just
missing out on going through to the quarter finals on goals scored. Year 5 and 6 children attended their tournament on Friday 20th
March and were excellent only just losing out on the title in the Final. Well done everyone!!
EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA
This annual event is always a show case opportunity
for our very talented children to show their creative
skills. Children have the opportunity to design an egg
and name it appropriately to their chosen theme. Staff
and children alike are always highly amused and
entertained by the many different ideas which always
reflect current trends. Well done to not only the
winners but to all the children who took part in this
community celebration.

Burton Albion Healthy Families Project
We are delighted to continue our partnership with
Burton Albion and the Citizens Advice Bureau who
run their Healthy Family project here at Shobnall
School. This is the third time this initiative has
been run.
It is very popular as it gives parents and children the opportunity to
develop their knowledge and skills in health and general matters
which affect family living as well as having an opportunity to
participate in sporting and fitness activities. The club is held each
Friday and we are hoping that we will be participating in a fourth
event very soon. The icing on the cake is a gift of football tickets
from Burton Albion for attend a selected fixture watching The
Brewers.
If you are interested in joining this great initiative next time, please
leave your name with a member of the office staff who will contact
you with details.
SCHOOL TALENT SHOW – 2ND APRIL 2015
We can always tell when the talent show is approaching. All
sports activity at breaktime ceases and the children are busy
practicing their comic sketches, their dances and their unique
contributions to the talent show. The competition is as keenly
contested as the BBC programme ‘The Voice’!
Well done to all children who, despite their nerves and
trepidation, challenged themselves to perform in front of their
classmates. Shobnall has an abundance of exceptional talent
and, on this occasion, our talent show finalists were Jasmine
Knight /Haniya Nadeem (Nursery); Scarlett Stilgoe and Olivia

Drama Club
Children in Years 1 and 2 have made a super start in drama
club. They had lots of fun stepping through our magic door
and have enjoyed taking part in numerous drama based
games.
I was very impressed with their imitating skills as they
mirrored each other and it was very exciting to see the
children transform into a variety of animals.
The children have begun to use their expression confidently
and we will continue developing this as we perform some
exciting hot seating, role play and freeze frame activities.
Junior Police Cadets
This term also saw the launch of our
Junior Police Cadet Scheme, run by local
police officers, here in school each
Monday.
The scheme encourages young people
to develop new skills and self-confidence
in the service of our communities. It aims
to boost links between the police and
young people and promote good
citizenship.
It isn’t about recruiting police officers for
the future but about developing young
people and making a difference to
communities
NEWS FROM THE KITCHEN
Thank you to all children who enjoyed the theme days this
term; World Book Day and Red Nose Day were both a
great success and then we finished the term off with our
Easter themed lunch.
Reverend Stanley
Monkhouse has very
kindly been into school
and led several Monday
assemblies.
All children and staff
have attended St
Aidan’s Church for our
Easter assembly.

SCHOOL COUNCIL ORGANISES RED NOSE DAY!
A big thank you goes to the School Council for helping to organize a very
successful fund raising event for Comic Relief.
The noses sold like hot cakes, everyone dressed up for the occasion and
the joke competition put a smile on our face. We were inundated with
jokes, a big thank you to everyone who took part.
We had lots of fun judging them and….if you missed out, Joke Books are
still available from the School Office at a cost of 50p per book.
My staff and I enjoy cooking and serving the children on
these days and all term” – Mrs Inger, School Cook.
